Dark Tunnel: Stage 4
Dark Tunnel: Stage 4

Dark Tunnel: Stage 4
Description: Now for the Ventilation System. As you can see, the material is a brushed aluminum and the vents are custom modeled 45 deg bidirectional louvers. Now that I think about it I should add a seam between the vents. One solid duct doesn't quite look right. I rendered this one at superfine 64 to help define the treads in the hanger rods, which I think I made a bit too 'tight', but that's ok. They still look good. ;-)

I hope you all don't mind that I'm posting with each major addition to the image. When I started this project I wasn't this serious about it. Now my diligence has grown to almost obsessive levels. I find myself working towards a design masterpiece to rival the astounding work some of you have done here. I have to admit I'm astounding myself with the detail I'm working into this image and the cleverness with which I've done some of it. Not that I'm not proud of the abstract work I've done but I feel a special and intense pride for my accomplishment with this image. Like when I did ?Temple of Golden Light?, which was easy compared to this one, I feel I?m truly creating a masterpiece. I hope you all like it the way I do. ;-)

Yes, the ventilation looks good. As you've noticed already, joints are needed. Also, some grids to let the air out, if this is to air condition the tunnel. How about a tad more light? As it is, we miss a lot of details.

How did you miss that vent at the upper right? That's how the air gets out into the tunnel. I know all of them aren't clearly visible from this angle but there are two of them in each section, one at the lights and one in between.

And as far as lighting goes. The name if the image is 'Dark' Tunnel. My whole intention is that it be dimly lit, as if with 40 watt light bulbs. I placed the camera to pretty much show one section of a seemingly endless series. I can reposition it closer to a lighted area if you like. ;-)

Yes, now I see the vent. Good. As far as light is concerned, you're the artist. Do as you think is right. Yes, 40 W bulbs is about right. Keep going.

Looks good indeed, Spektyr. The vents are a needed addition to this kind of place. The lighting seems balanced and just enough to barely catch some of the details. Having them all symmetrically distributed doesn't feel as a "loss" if not all is visible at one time, meaning you don't seem them but you know those details are there. Keep up and quite a jump you're making from the other abstract genre. Really, fine results! I can only suggest you to put more and thinner pipes here and there(symmetry is not a necessity btw) and don't forget to "plug-in" the soft shadows in the end.

Thanks Guys!

Richter-
So far I've kept it pretty symmetrical but that will change with the next render. I'm planning a variety of different pipes and conduits, most of which are going on the left side so as not to block the ventilation system. This is still very much a work in progress. ;-)

Thanks Trish!

I was just playing with an idea to animate this one so the viewer accellerates throught the tunnel until everything is a blur. It is possible even with only the 5 physical tunnel sections in this image. It'll be tricky to get it right but I may just take a crack at it. ;-)
