Dark Tunnel: Stage 2

Dark Tunnel: Stage 2
Description: I had to replcate the original tunnel section 5 times to get rid of a lighting anomaly created by the mirrors, which took some time considering all the Boolean models (The bolt heads on the pipes and the utility boxes for the lights). The camera is also relocated to show the pipe flanges with the bolts. I'm not afraid of the dark but I still find this image spooky. ;-)

All comments are welcome and appreciated.

Coming soon: Liquid Colors 4 animation using metaballs, which makes it a long render even with the additional computers on my network. It should be ready by Saturday. 1800 frames at 720x560 in about 2 days. I love these surplus HPs. Not bad for $70 a pop. :-)

Wow thats awesome. Nice lighting and good modeling. I like the pipes and the bolts on them. All thats missing is a creepy monster. :-)

Thanks Connor!

I'll have to let someone else do the monster. I'm not good with creatures . . . Yet! ;-)

It's not finished yet. I still have to add pipe hangers, an electrical conduit or two, A ventilation duct with custom modelled grills . . . maybe a rat or two if I can find them premodelled. ;-)

Thanks Horo!

I'm really pleased with the way the pipes give the image a greater 3D effect. It's like I can almost step through my monitor and be in that tunnel . . . then of course the nasty beast runs up on me, tears me to pieces and proceeds to chow down. YIKES! ;-)

Excelelnt. I love everything about this so far. As for rats, Richter made one available here in the model exchange. He created it for the Halloween contest and it is perfect for this scene. Nice to see you break away from the abstract realm for a moment. Impressive!

Thank you, t_bahles and Rashad!

Yeah. My abstracts are mostly experimental. This is something with a specific goal in mind and mostly procedural. I haven't done this much boolean modeling since 'Temple of Golden Light', which I'm in the process of rebuilding since the setup file for it was lost. The most interesting boolean object in this project so far is the utility box for the lights, which is more visible in the first stage of this image. When I did my 3D RSS Logo I developed a procedure for rounding 4 edges of a cube by 'triming away' the excess, which requires 8 cylinders and 2 cubes for the cutaway template. The bolt heads were easier, taking 6 cubes to cut them into hexagons.

I really should do a lot more boolean modeling. That's the way to set yourself free from primitives in Bryce. It may take a lot of work but you can 'sculpt' practically any shape imaginable. Besides, it exercises my cleverness to the max.

Wouldn't it be nice if they added a vertex modeler to Bryce. But then I guess there would be no need for Hexagon. ;-)

BTW, I'm submitting this to the DAZ3D Bryce Gallery when I'm done. I haven't done that in a while and I'm thinking this one has a good chance of getting posted.

Just a heads up.

I just modeled the pipe hangers and they look pretty good. I want to do this entirely with Bryce so I'll simulate threaded rods with toruses. The treads won't be helical but it should look ok. ;-)

Thanks Miklos!

It does look real, doesn't it? I'm actually amazing myself with this one. Check out Stage 3. It just keeps getting better and better. ;-)
