SpaceWeb
Description: The model is pTurbine by Richter, available here in the 3ds Models department. The background was made in Apophysis, again by Richter. What the heck did I do?

I created a spherical panorama from the square Apo render, mapped it around a sphere and rendered the 6 cube faces 4 times with different intensities of the radial lighting the sphere. From this, I faked an HDRI light probe with low resolution. From the LDRI pano I created a mask with the bright parts transparent. The LDRI pano and the mask were mapped on a sphere. The bright and blurred parts of the HDRI shine through the appropriate places in the hi-res LDRI on the sphere, lighting the pTurbine model. The dark parts of the sphere are lit by a radial behind the model and are shown in much higer resolution than the HDRI is. Rendered with 256 lights, premium with 36 rpp in around 4 hours.

A spider-like spaceship in a web-like nebula.

Im still trying to figure out what you did. I like the texture that you used on the ship. The background is very well done with wonderful colors. I think I like the left part of the background the most, with some of the darker colors and bright orange/yellow.

I agree with connorzelinsky regarding the background.
The bottom-left part has a lot of depth in it.
The ship looks battered perhaps flown through the Asteroid Belt.
All together great scene!

Looks great. I get the feeling of outer space, or maybe of subspace. I think the lighting on the ship or object is incredible, I love the orange warmth.

It's somehow reminiscent of a Goa'uld Ha'tak. Pretty cool! ;-)

You did the background with Apophysis? It deffinitely has a feeling of depth. It stimulates the imagination into pondering what sort of 'dimention' this scene is set in. ;-)
