I wonder what woule happen if you experimented with using a "fuzzy" in this situation. It might work or might not as fuzzies are tricky sometimes. In order for us to view an object this bright in this way means we are not really looking at the sun with our opwn eye, but through a screen that can cancel the glare and the overwhelming brightness that is the real sun.

The sun as such is very nicely done. From an astronomical point of view, a sun is a gaseous body and we would not expect a clear defined perimeter as we have here. An alternative to Rashad's suggestion would be adding a larger sphere with this sun inside and give the outer sphere some cloudy volume material. Render time will dramatically increase, though. But I repeat - apart from the perimeter, the suin looks very convincing with the darker "sunspots" and the "protuberances" we look head on. We'd just like to see them on the perimeter as well.

It's a good experiment with good sunspot effect. I've tried to create a convincing solar surface and perimeter, like it would appear through a Hydrogen Alpha filter, but could never get it right. It's quite difficult. Don't let that stop you though. Anything's possible. ;-)
