Good one, Anurin! Sadly Bryce cannot produce "enough heat" for a realistic fire, at least in my opinion. For me possible solution to a "nice" fire effect combines David's volumetric plasma material (look in the mat x-change) plus some levels of high exposure and contrast/brightness balanced values in 2d editing application as Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, etc. It is important to bear in mind and later adjust your colors according to the type of flame you're trying to achieve. I'm sure you realize that a candle light is far more different (in the sense of achieving it) then a fireplace or a simple torch. So generally I think you should thing of the size of the flame and how hot actually are you going to present it.

If you want to edit your above img with minimal postwork, I'd say bring it to your 2d app, recopy it in a new layer and for the new layer raise the exposure until you get a burnt-white core of the flames. The finaly just erase the upper part of the modified layer where the exposure also made changes.

If you don't have a post-application as those mentioned, or you wish to restrain yourself from the "evil :)" postwork you'll have to achieve that white-hot core of the flames within bryce by using ambient values in the material.

Your current image nicely resembles fire if you ask me, though the only thing missing is the "heat" that could convince the viewers not to touch their monitor in the flaming spots. Cheers and good luck further, Anurin!

It looks like Excalibur emerging from a firey pool, as if it was magically forged and now it's being given to the world.

I haven't played with fire mats too much myself so I'll say I like what you've done here. Keep working at it. I look forward to your future works. :-)

Very good setup. I agree with richter that you need to add heat to them and starting with David's plasma will be a good start.
