Description: The Valachia Castle is a free resource by 'Army' (Alan Armstrong), the knights and dargons by DAZ3D and the amour in the entrance from 3D Game Studio. Lit by a selfmade HDRI (Quality 256, Intensity 1.5, Effect 100) and it is rendered as backdrop (see http://www.horo.ch/photos/hdri/html/hmarmorera_en.html for more information.

There are quite a few objects. The 3840 diameter HDRI made problems and I could not use the 6400 pixel HDRI. I therefore rendered with the 3840 one and additionally rendered a mask. Then I deleted all objects and just rendered the 6400 diameter HDRI separately with the same settings. The resulting picture was sharpened in Photoshop. Both renders were calculated together in HDRShop using the rendered Mask to get a well focused backdrop.

One of your masterpieces! I like it! And HDRI greatly feats whole scene!

Astounding! Brilliant! I love everything about this work, flawless!!!!!! 5/5.

More love to give. The backdrop fits in perfectly with the scene, scaling seems exact. All of the lighting choices are magnificent.

Upon closer inspection I do observe a couple of things. The more I look at the image I feel I begin to see something unusual about the light on the castle itself. Seems the lights from inside are bleeding through the walls a bit too much maybe? Shadows do not quite reach the depth I would expect for this time of day even with an overcast sky. I doubt you would use any ambient glow unless you were rendering Pro Render compliance which in this case you have not stated as such, so I assume no TA here and therefore no ambient glow in the materials lab. So I assume that the shadow intensity may be too low.

But that is me nitpicking, the inital effect is excellent and well balanced. I do not know if it is possible to fit an hdri background into a Bryce render any better than you have here.

Thanks for your kind commends. Rashad cannot be cheated when light is concerned. There is indeed some light bleeding through the building. The lights have square falloff and are very bright. I've noticed this but found it nice and left it that way. After all, the 500 kV power line over the pass is clearly visible - a disadvantage of a hi-res HDRI rendered as backdrop. This actually clashes with the main subject. Anybody noticed the round stone at left foreground?
