Smilin' Mike
Smilin' Mike

Smilin' Mike
Description: This is not really a complete scene. This is merely a test of combining IBL and True Ambience under Pro Render rules. There is a detailed discussion about it at the Daz Bryce forums

Feedback is appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

There are those over-exposed parts, you're aware of, as you said in the DAZ forum. Here, we have it larger and are able to look at details. Mike is somewhere else with his thoughts, the eyes are not fucused to look at anything real.

Teeth - they look very 3D and I wonder whether TA or IBL contributes to this. Having seen the pure IBL version over at DAZ, I think it is IBL while TA brightens the shadows/dark parts up. If we look for photorealism, I think the dark part is too dark, those teeth look stained. Perhaps some specularity (or reflection) would help. After all, teeth are always wetted by a bit of saliva.

The eyes look good in this respect. They look wet without appearing to be full of tears. Apart from the focus - which disturbs me when I behold that picture - the eyes look good.

Very real looking. Can't really say anything other than that.

Good, well balanced image (despite high contrast). Good feeling of 3d - as usual from you. M4 here is more "alive", than most of these V4 staring at me from DAZ galleries - I like that it's not focused on camera.
I'm not very fond of human figures, nor very experienced with them, so I'm not in position to make any crits here, and my remarks could be of little value..
I think, that maybe bome more bump would be good? Or slightly harder light? How about Eyelashes? Maybe a transparency map to make ears seem translucent?
Michael4 has a morph called "Short hair" - could be handy..

Now this is something... From personal experience I know that the eyes (and teeth) are most tricky to get right if everything else is looking good. As a matter of fact the only thing that gives away this is a 3d render is the lack of eyelashes (like Popgriffon said) and that the hair is a texture map and not dynamic or polygonal with transparency channel map. I'm back on the eyes now... If you manualy balanced the reflection and spec. setting for them, you've done great job! As an overall impression - that's by far the best bryce render on human face in our br5.com gallery. Of course, keep it up and make something stunning that doesn't end on "test" or "experiment" ;). I know you can do it.
