Fall Foliage
Fall Foliage

Fall Foliage
Description: Another landscape but this time with an Autumn theme. The scene like many is corrupt and cannot be further edited in its current form. There is a render challenge at Daz3d for Autmn themes so I needed to get it done before the end of the month. So time is short and the render was just over a day. So I will not reassmble and re-render the scene even though i have major issues with a couple of things.

First, the leaves do not properly fit the branches of the foreground small tree. This can happen when Bryce trees are viewed too closely. Also the UV mapping of the Buck is very planar, so much that it is stretched out along the back og the animal, very low resolution. The Buch was essnetial as a focus.

Feedback is welcome.

Thanks all for your time.

Wow. I think it looks great. The deer looks almost perfect, just the its back close to the camera. Trees look really good and the lighting is amazing. 5/5

Much thanks Connor! I was not too sure about this one so I really appreciate the positive feedback.

Also I forgot to mention in the description, the sunlight in Bryce does not offer rays, so I disabled it and drew a star with rays on a black background and imported it as the sun. I think it looks fairly natural.

Rashad, I like this image! It looks so complex and is made in your unique stile. Great piece of work! And as about foliages in foreground, it is a problem, but it doesn't reduce value of your work!

Agreed, beautiful scene. Very good idea of putting a sun the way you did. Got to keep such things in mind. The "floating" leaves in the foreground hit me as first thing. Not your fault, I know. Even IvyGenerator generated ivies cannot be looked at at close proximity. If only the stems of the leaves could be given a separate material to approximate the twig material. This could hide the floating. The colour contrast unfortunately enhances that flaw. The metaball trunks of the Bryce trees are also aways a nuissance but they are not very obvious here. The foliage is outstanding - Rashad-like, I should say.

The picture is worth a 5/5 but not for you. As you say, the buck would have needed a bit more care regarding the coat. The pose is impecable. I don't give you a 5/5 for the only reaso that I know that you would have still improved on this picture, if you had the time. But I envy you to have found the time to finish such a beautiful piece for the autumn contest.

You all are being very nice to me. Thanks so very much.

Horo, you do know me well. Everytime I look at this pic all I see are its problems, the buck and the bad leaf fit. So no, it does not feel like a 5ver to me even though overall it may still be. The IBL quality was about 128, 256 would have been great. I also used hard shadow sunlight to save time, this makes a mess of the shadows in the foreground tree, almost looks like reflection but it is shadows. Yes, given more time this would have been a very different render, the same overall but more refined. I would have re-mapped the buck with my own stuff and it would look better likely. I still feel that this was not too bad for the time allowed. O fcourse the file is corrput so even now I cannot edit the scene. I have earler versions saved but they are many stages behind. Thanks all for your very kind words and support!!!!!!!

My goal now is to present a landscape next time that is less close to the camera. The lack of instancing makes filling in an open space much more difficult, but I am working on some super low res distance trees that should be under 200 poly each. I could potentially place thousands of them in the distance without crashing Bryce, that is the hope. I have not yet come to be certain if it will work.

More to come.

I think most has been said, Rashad, you pointed out few flaws yourself. Well, I guess it is normal when one has deadlines to catch, it affects more or less the final result. However - rich flora and well chosen colors, not too saturated, not too pale. Nice, good. Looking forward for more scenes like this one, and take your time. Every piece of leaf you put within is worth it and it is apparent how lifelike your plant/nature/scenery images become with each entry!
