Edge of Darkness
Description: It seemed like such a simple idea. A burning match... still not there with the flame effect, but I don't know quite what is eluding me. Any ideas?

Yes, fire is a problem

If you can think of a way of doing so, the forum perhaps is the place, I'd post the fire material up there for you to play with and maybe tweek - I've tried all sorts of filtering and phase shifting, but I just can't seem to get it just right. Same fire as the adventure, the volcano, the metorite and the lava pic so it is kind of useful. Do you want to play with fire?

fire texture

hey this looks good, i like the match!!

there is a good fire texture here at http://www.brycetech.com/ on the left click on 'fire and ice', then scroll down until you see the flaming tourch, then you can download the texture.

it may be a little harsh for what you are after, but with your tweaking ability you should come up with something good

Thanks

Followed the link and downloaded the material. Interesting to see how it's been aproached from a different angle and already applied his shader technique to one of my existing volume materials. Not sure the autophase effect of the random mapping mode is good for flames but it is very nice for plasma :o) - rendering now!

match

The match is three terrains, one burnt and ashen and two wooden - just kept duplicating and brushing abit more away to let the layer beneath show. Match head is a sphere with a volumetic material applied - fuzzy factor set to max and fifty percent ambient with another volume sphere wrapped around with the same red pattern but transparent instead of ambient to give it a bit of extra glow. Not as complicated as it sound. :o)

Awesome

As soon as I saw the thumbnail I knew it had to be davids, due to the great realism. This image is awesome. It really gives the effect of a burning match.
