I love it. Not really sure what I am looking at but thats okay. Love the crystal shapes on the out side of the sphere. Also the blue clouds are on the bottom are wonderful.

Amazing! 5/5 for the colour choices alone, beautiful. The whole thing is very detailed. A mix of techno, landscape, clouds, meteorites and astronomy. Tell me richter, what discipline are you studying? Is it art?

I like it. It seems like a poster or illustration. I always wonder: "How do people do that?!" 5/5

Thanks guys! It makes me a happy man when someone appreciates the work for an image.

Horo, danke :) The discipline... well, actually it is not related to the digital 2d, 3d or the traditional forms of art. I'm studying higher mathematics and informatics. After my final certification examination I'll have a bachelor's degree. The other side of the coin is that I am fascinated by almost any form of art and I'm fully dedicated to the 3d, even though my past choices led me to study something completely different. Of course the 3d IS higher math, 4d - even worse ;)) but the science of "integrals and differentials" so to speak lacks the artistic spark I need. I have a collection of various tutorials, books and articles concerning the digital medium, that serve for my "artistic education" and scrutiny :) Placing those on one side and learning from the artworks of some of the best 2d and 3d artists (Raphael Lacoste, Fausto de Martini, Alessandro Baldasseroni, Marek Denko and so on..) on another, helps me progress further.

Alexandr, I skipped the tech info for this img in the description and now I feel I have to add it here, lazy me.. So "How do people do that?!" Well, it is mainly a work of layers in Photoshop and how those layers blend with each other. That includes the Blending Options with all the glow/shadow cast properties for a single layer, layer opacity, hue/contrast adjustments, the eraser tool with its own opacity/flow, blur tool.
So to put it in a nutshell there were 16 layers in PS. The "engineering sphere", the FireVine and crystals were modeled in Maya, later imported in Bryce and the "eng. sphere" and crystals were rendered with one of my cel-shaded glass materials (more info about cel-shading on Horo's site [here] . For lighting the bryce scene I used 2 radial lights - one with positive intensity (300) casting grey shadows and second light with negative (-180) intensity casting reddish shadows. With the rest of the materials ready I rendered everythig at res 2000x. Let's name this one "Color". Then I made another render, named "Mask", though this time with object mask mode in Bryce so the sphere with its "accessories" gets masked. Later imported the 2 renders in PS and the "Mask" render helped for isolating only the Sphere from the "Color" render. From now on with adding another images (rendered in apophysis) and two photos I managed to assemble almost everything you see above. The planet, its asteroid ring and the comets were created later with techniques based on various tutorials on the net.

If there's something specific you want to ask about, Alexandr, or if there's something that needs a little more explanation, please feel free to ask and I'll try to answer.
