Al-Khima MB
Description: The architecture, the fairy and the songbirds are from DAZ3D. I did this scene before as a poster for one of my grandchildren. The version as mirrorball was primarly done for the book "DRI and HDRI" by J?rgen Kircher. I redid it to see what can be done if a scene is rendered with different light settings, combined to an HDRI, and tone-mapped. This is the result of the elaborate experiment. See http://www.bryce5.com/details.php?image_id=3395 for details.

The scene is lit by a radial at the place of the sun, the sun is disabled. The fairy has 4 ranged radials and there is a radial in the dome to give Frozencry's Streaming Rays light (available here: http://www.bryce5.com/details.php?image_id=1144 ). The ambient light is from a light probe I made from Gossiping ( http://www.bryce5.com/details.php?image_id=2897 ).

Nice. I love how it looks like a reflection. Would make a beautiful poser. Hope your grandchildren loved it, I would. Very detailed. The windows and tile floor are very well done. Lighting, as usual is very nice. 5/5

That is one huge mirror ball. The reflection of this picture was very clever and it turned out very well.

Nice job getting such a nice 360 degree render. The light through the panes is very nice. It has that touch of magic.

Thanks for your nice comments. If you would photograph a mirror ball in such a place, you wouldn't get this result. The ceiling were dark or the outside just bright white. Such a scene in Bryce could be lit with a couple of additional radials to brighten up the dark parts. The idea here was to take another path and see where we can get with it. Rendering the same scene with different intensities of the light sources used and combining them to a faked HDRI gives an enormous amount of possibilities for post production.

Agreed. In fact I would also argue that tonemapping might need to be made a part of the everyday process. With simple scene multiple renders are easy. In complex scene the multiple renders can take forever. So perhaps a single render with false ev stops created in a 2d app then combined into an hdri, then tonemapped. Sounds crazy but I know you are thinking similar things, because the results are a new level of realsim more like the feeling of the eye and less of the limitations of a camera.

Not crazy, Rashad, but not working well because all brightnesses will be dimmed or boosted equally. Good for an ambient light probe, very limitted for tonemapping. You have to have some light sources that are much brighter than the rest in order to get the dynamic range or contrast in order to have a picture that can be effectively tone-mapped. Don't think I haven't experimented with this idea. This shortcut produces disappointing results. What can be done is isolating the brightest light souce (e.g. sun) and not dimming it, so it gets very bright. Multiple renders that simulate different exposure times (or f-stops) are better, but aren't a guarantee to get a good result. After all, it is always faking.
