Sponza Final
Description: Again Vue Studio Pro 6 with a new Camera angle. This picture was taken from the lower level The sky settings was light blue and I turned up the quality boost which is supposed to get rid of the grainy look. Added three more radial lights which are set on a lower setting with low soft shadows. Also played around with the mixed materials settings to make this Sponza look a few years beyond new construction.

This was the volumetric model with all lights set to global radiosity.

I am hoping this will be convincing so let me know what you think.

ZI like your new camera angle. Makes it look bigger. Your lighting is also cool. Makes it look like an abandoned castle or something. I like it.

Very good! The texturing you applied to age the stucture is most succesful. The lighting is very good. This Sponza presents an interesting lighting challenge for 3d artists. It has complex internal geometry but only one hole above through which all light must pass to enter into the space. In this case we are at the bottom. The light looks good to me about what I would expect. Yes. I do find it convincing. Very nice job. The increased quality does not go innoticed. You need to engage smoothing, there is noticeable faceting of the columns. Or perhaps similar to True Ambience, the Vue GI fails on imported models to smooth edges? At this point since you are still learning the software I would guess it is a user issue more than a GI problem. I like the touch of haze you added, seems like dust int he air which is just right for an old place like this.

Yes, it is the best of the series. I'm not sure the facetting of the columns is wrong. I had smoothed mine but after looking closely to other Sponza renders and the original (links on my 1st version), it appears that the lower columns are octagonal but the upper ones round. Difficult to decide.

Thanks for everyones comments. I have been doing some tutorials and have been learning how to mix textures but there is still more to learn. I think the pillars in the lower level are round from looking at Rashad's first take on this. You can see one pillar in the lower level which appears to be round.

Not sure what to say about the lower pillars it could be a combination of things such as shadows and camera angle. I did not use the highest render and am not sure it this would have made a difference.

Well it has been a fun experiment and a good learning experience. I am becoming familiar with the four lighting models in Vue.

A high render setting are always towards the benefit of the final render, at least from my observations. Vue is a brilliant piece of software, judging by all the pro renders and its use in films like Pirates of the Caribbean. In the near future I hope to familiarize myself also with Vue.

Now for your current setup - I too find it convincing, yes, maybe a touch more brighter sky and less darker areas on the 2nd floor to feel 100% real. Your re-texturing looks fine to me, the Sponza does look older and disused. However if you have the UV maps or if you can export them, you could re-draw cetain areas in PS with dirt, moss and such to further evolve the "ruined" look. Experiment with some brushes and Overlay for the coresponding layer if you menage to extract the uvs.

Richer thanks for you observations. In Vue you can add moss and dirt with the advanced material editor using what is called the function editor which is still beyond me. But you can also set your elevations for moss and the such.
