Sponza
Description: Program used was Vue Studio Pro 6 I found this Sponza on my CD that came with my program. I did not want to cheat so I changed the setting and used the spectral model with global radiosity.

The definition for this light set up using global radiosity is:
"The Global radiosity model is the ultimate model in terms of quality of illumination and realism. It propagates light in the scene, instead of propagating shadows as the ambient occlusion and global illumination models do. With this model, objects that are exposed to light will reemit some of that light in all directions, according to the optical properties of their surface. Light will thus 'bounce around' repeatedly in the scene, as it would in reality. As a result, each point in the scene receives light from all the other objects in the scene."

Hey - you did it! I think the light is rather photorealistic with that burned out parts. You wouldn't get the corridor this bright without burning out the parts where the sun shines directly onto with a camera. The corridor seems to almost glow, which would be from bouncing light.

Horo still cannot get some of the info i sent you to past in. There must be some offending characters still.

I tired adjusting the angle and the power of the sun and found it hard to get rid of the burned out area using this lighting model. I will keep experimenting to see what I can come up with. But the way it bounces light seems very nice.

Ok, I put that in - out of the email I've sent you.

Now - in my humble opinion: if you were at this spot in reality with your camera, the picture you would have brought home would be very much like this one. If I were on the spot, I would have made an HDRI because no film, CCD or CMOS sensor could cope with this dynamic range. Try it out yourself: when the sun shines on the windowsil and you photograph from the inside out. You either have the room bright and the windowsil burned out or the windowsil good and the room black.

Now, this is an artwork, not a photograph. I know how I would go about it in Bryce to make it appear like a tone-mapped HDRI (e.g. nothing burned out and the interior lit nevertheless) but I do not know how you have to go about it in Vue.

I am with you on this one and am working on it right now. This is very new to me but will be a good learning experience.

Yes, the burn-out is too much. The issue should be in the indirect light. The proportion between direct amd indirect is not quite right, too much direct is necessary to brighten the indirect. There should be a way to adjust the indirect light intensity and boost it. By doing this you can lower the intensity of the sunlight making it all blend in together a bit better. Also, where are the soft shadows from the sunlight? GI renders should always have soft shadows from the sun. I had heard that they are rewriting the radiosity engine for version 7 and I can see why if this much burn-out is needed to light the halls.

I see quality issues here, pixels do not seem right. Anothe Vue issue but the settings are likely the cause.

The halls do look very good.

I certainly agree with the points you have made. I do like the color or the texture in this setup but not the burn out. I just looked up this Sponza on the internet it is located in Dubrovnik if you are interested in doing a search and seeing some pictures there are some nice ones.

It is more white in appearance but certainly not in as good of conditions as this rendition. I will be posting this again as I did another sample using the volumetric model with the global radiosity with two added radials.
