Description: It's quite a long time that I haven't posted here, but I'm still alive and rendering.. I remade my older "Victory" scene - biggest change is in lighting setup - IBL reported prohibitive rendertime (two weeks), so I used here several "clusters" of colored spotlights instead. Image rendered within three hours. Some postwork filter applied to get that "sun, sea, and ships" mood of marine classic painting.

This one looks quite authentic to me. Great setup, good sky. The waves are amazing. They alone are worth a 5/5. Yes, good lighting choice, too. I know, IBL can prove to be quite a render hog.

Popgriffon,

I saw this one in the galleries at Daz3d and noticed immediately that you had not uploaded it here, I got a little jealous. Exceptional piece of work. Sorry to hear about the long render with IBL, no surprise to me. With the transparency and the reflection of the water I imagine IBL at any quality above 64 would take centuries. The scene has not suffered for lack of IBL. Your water is very effective in these scenes.

2 questions

1. You are very experienced with Carrara. I have dabbled in it for the purpose of stealing its lighting tricks for implementation in Bryce. The water in Carrara seems in some ways ahead of Bryce and in other ways behind Bryce. In Carrara you have the animated water surfaces, in Bryce we have terrain water surfaces. Would this have been easier to produce in Carrara or is Bryce better suited. You did the scene in Bryce clearly but that does not mean Carrara was not an option so I want to ask and not to assume.

Second, how do you reconcile the issue of terrain water surfaces and the horizon line? For me when I assemble a proper terrain it is impossible for a single terrain to reach the horizon. I always end up tiling the terrains but because of the dynamic nature of the terrain surfaces and edges the seams never fit together naturally. Above, it seems most of the horizon view is blocked by the positions of the ships, so clearly this is one aspect of your horizon reconciliation method. Anything more you might offer me? Thanks and great work once again and as always. You really care about the work, you take it seriously and your skills are formidable.
