the Attic - Daylight
Description: For the lighting in this image I borrowed the "multi-replicate" lights technique from the GI tutorial. There is too much options and lights to describe here, so I made an additional image that illustrates "How & where" all the lights were positioned and each of their properties. I think it is much better then words :) [Click Here] Overall only the default sun and the replica lights were used.
Aside from the lighting, all the modeling done in Maya; carpet, painting, red pillows and bottle labels were assembled as textures in PS. The carpet was a contour drawing off the net - portrait of indian gods primary meant for a large tattoo. I brought the color into this "tattoo" and there you see it all over my carpet. Outside the room there's a landscape photo which provides the "rest" of the world. Finally rendered in Premium 16r/p, rendertime: 8h 30 mins. Postwork in PS - correcting colors, highlights and some specular bounce light.

WOW!!!! This is awesome! Looks really modern and nicely comfy. You know what would make it even better? Rplace that painting with one of my abstracts. It would go excellently with the modern decor. ;-)

Really good job!!! 5/5

Extraordinary, very good, very natural looking, there is even some red from the seat lit by the sunlight bleeding onto the wall right of the window. The picture on the wall is one of yours, I take it. Fits the scene perfectly. 5/5 - and thanks for sharing your light rig setup.

Agreed, this is very good work Richter. I believe that the GI tut is amazing and the best part about it is indeed the random replicated lights and the inversed gradient. The random cluster of lights does the hard stuff for us, and does it well. There is no longer an excuse for not finding good indirect lighting for interiors. The secret is the random cluster, brilliant. The lights are amazing, very good. Thanks for the "how to" because such things are needed. Great job! 5/5. By the way those floor tiles are amazing, they look very realistic.

Thanks! The final result suits me very well either. One thing I should have mentioned is that the painting on the wall is not mine. I was wondering if someone here have heard about Horiyoshi III. He's (if not the best) one of the best tattooists of our time and an admirable painter. There was a book published about 10 years ago with a series of paintings called "100 Demons of Horiyoshi III" and this painting here is one of my favourites.
