Chamber of Death
Description: Dexter is trying to figure out what happened to this last explorer while amidst the water lies the answer his questions.

Dexter Dinokonda and mice from Daz

I followed some of the suggestions from the Secret Chamber. Changed the water ripple using the Parametric Terrain Editor and gave dexter a new set of dirty cloths with the help of PS. Changed Dexter's facial expression but to no avail as I needed the distance to show off the new flashlight. Changed the lantern so the lighting looks more natural. The mice are big so they look like rats.

Used PS to add some splash and dripping water from Dinokonda and for adding some grim on the cave floor.

Any suggestions are welcomed.

Looks great , much improved. The story unfolds very nicely. Something seems odd with the scaling of Dexter's legs. One leg appears to be hidden inside the terrain the other leg seems to be miniature. It must be a camera angle thing but it definetly stands out to me.

Oh yes, this is much better. Everything looks good here, except that it appears that Dexters right leg is amputated below the knee. I didn't particularly like the terrain material on the first incarnation but here, in this light, it looks very good.

Thanks for you observations and kind remarks. The leg on Dexter is really there and the size is right but because of the darkness it is not visible as he is kneeling. I guess I had better add a small radial to make it more apparent.

I do like the way the lighting is acting not only with the terrain but also the water. The angle of the light is highlighting the water mat. From all the discussion on bounce lighting I added some small radials in the cave to help the light in the lantern to make the cave walls more apparent. In my first render you could not see some areas as they were pitch black. I have been in some very dark caves and it is amazing how one light can affect a large area.

I have two monitors hooked up to my system and I just purchased a new 20 inch monitor (as my old monitor died) and it is about 15% brighter than my other monitor. This does cause some confusion with lighting. I don't know how this picture above looks on other monitors.

The look of Dinokonda emerging from the water looks really good in this one. I only see one mouse and you're right, it looks like a rat. The flashlight beam looks really good and I still can't get over how great the whole cavern looks. Great job!!!

I should be laying tile in the kitchen but I am procrastinating. Very nice comments Spektyr and yes there is another rat in the picture. He is not easy to see but he or she is there. The flashlight was from the streaming light rays from the materials section but I changed the streams to stratus clouds so it would look more like a solid beam of light.

The most dramatic thing in this picture is the Dinokonda emerging with all of the dripping water. The waves and the rest of this underground "stream" blend much much better with one another here then in the "Secret Chamber". Good work with the PTEditor.

The only two things I can suggest are (1)for the light from the lantern to have softer shadows plus less intensity and (2) for that "amputated" leg you'll need to position the character in a way that will provide some shadows from the leg over the rock beneath. Otherwise it really looks ... cut-off.
So you have a new monitor, very good. Here is something that will help you adjust your brightness, contrast and eventually the gamma levels. The idea is every letter to be visible except the brightest and the darkest one, the next ones beside them have to be barely visible.

You know I have often check various options to tweak a monitor for "best" picture but they are different, as are the recommendations given on one site or another. So for an optimal result the mentioned above link and guide here should work fine for you.

Thanks for the link I have already been adjusting the monitors using the control buttons I have turned down my new monitor about 10% on brightness and my old monitor is maxed out and still looks very dull compared to the new one.

As far as the water dripping I found 26 dripping brushes for free on the internet.

I have already changed this scene and I did rotate Dexter and added a small radial under him so his leg is visible. I did not lower the light on the lantern because I was going from the brightness from my old monitor. I have already submitted this in the Bryce Gallery so I will see what happens.

Thanks for your suggestions and comments and to all those who provided there input and ideas.
