Secret Chamber
Description: Cave is made from several terrains top bottom and sides. Dexter is wondering around and does not have a clue as to why the skeletons are laying around.

Dexter and Dinokonda from Daz

The lighting is not totally natural as a real cave would not have a light tucked away in the back as this one does. I wanted to highlight the fog and added some low lit radials in front of Dexter's face and Dinokonda.

I welcome any suggestions or comments.

Dexter looks very good. His face is much better than many others I have seen. The ripples around the monster are also very good. The only thing is, I think the tail looks to be coming out of the rock but it might be an odd angle. The cave itself looks cool and I like the extra lights added.

Nice scene. The lighting helps to tell us the story so I think the light rays are fine. I miss some expression on the face of Dexter. The particular shade of blue of his pants is very high in saturation, much more so than any other color sample inthe piece. It makes Dexter stand out, I do not know if this was intended but I think it is the blueness of his pants that most makes the scene look unrealistic. Lower that saturation to about 1/4 what it is now and it would look more like it fits in with the rest of the scene. The skeletons look like they might be floating? Have you disabled shadows in tha material lab or sdid you disable shadows on the lights? I somehow do not feel the skeletons making contact with the ground. As connor observed the ripples are fantastic! The light rays and the general waves of the water are very good indeed.

Connor, thanks for you nice comments the ripples were made in Hexagon. I think you are seeing an overlapping terrain with the end open as the tail to the creature is buried way down in the bottom terrain. Glad you like the lighting.

Rashad, thanks for observations and insights. The pants on Dexter were my doing as I did not like the color they were for this scene so I made them blue. But I never did like the crouch which does not look normal to me. I can also see the color is unnatural for this scene. I forgot to check the color for ambiance. It could be the skeletons are floating I worked on these for some time to try to place them on the ground. I should have buried them in the ground some. I entered this in the Daz gallery but it was not accepted. I want to redo this scene and re-enter this for next month, so any other suggestions would be helpful.

I downloaded Truespace 7.6 and have played with it some. It appears to have some nice modeling features but many many little boxes everywhere. Wow

So far no one has notice the round circle of light by Dixter's feet go ahead and guess and see if you can figure it out. Ha

A clever mystery indeed. I can guess it is a spotlight of some sort, or it is light shining through a hole at the bottom of the lantern. It could be a positive shadpw cast by a negative light. Lots of things could be going on.

All important things I have noticed myself have been cared for already. Though the idea of the waves around the Dinokonda is a good one, they look a bit too artificial to me. Have you tried to use the Parametric Terrain Editor (PTE) for this? I'd go for a sine wave and then use some Gaussian blur with a graphics app to fade towards the edge. You'll find the link to the free PTE on my website under Raytracing > Tools.

Rashad, Very good guess it was the lantern. When I modeled this Hexagon I thought no one will see the bottom of the lantern but I paid a price for not doing it correctly. I was surprised that the light was able to shine through as I thought the top part was closed.

Horo, I fully agree with your main point and was wondering how to make some nicer splashes so thanks for the advise. I am going to check out your web site right now. Thanks.

Nice cavern design! The lighing from the lantern does indeed look natural. Nice ripples in the water around Dinokonda. Cool image overall!

Thanks Spektyr for you comments. I know the lantern light is not natural and certainly agree with your comments. But in order to get the light I need in this scene I could not figure out any other way to highlight the faces of the monster and Dexter without some low lite radials. But am open for suggestions.

I am working on this scene again and hope to have it posted in a couple of days. I thought of Indiana Jones when I first started this picture. But this is not Hollywood and don't think there will be any type of Houdini escape for Dexter. But we all like happy endings so look at it from Diokonda''s perspective.
