Troop Carrier Fleet Version 2
Description: This is almost the same picture but with more ships and a different texture. I think Render Man was correct in pointing out that having this texture on it makes the picture look better. I added in a light so the ships were not too dark to see.

To use a term coined by then Colonel Jack O'Neil, those are some "Big Honking Space Guns"! ;-)

It looks like that formation is kind of congested, tempting collisions if you know what I mean. The air doesn't look breathable so I guess this is an alien world, or perhaps the sky over NYC at sunset. hehe

I'm looking forward to seeing future revisions using these ships. Nice job.

You are right from this angel they look kinda close together but if you look at it from the front they are kinda far apart. The drop ship is close to the 'Big Honking Space Guns" but they should be. I currently have Maya open but my brain is being annoying and I can not think of what to do with the model. Thanks for the comment!

There are alot of things that are working well. I like the color tint and the lighting is effective. I think you were wise to take Renderman's advice on the texturing. These ships look like they were designed to fight. They look like weapons like flying guns. I like the feeling of movement you've captured with this camera angle. The next step is to light the ships somehow with decks and all. Thrusters might not be needed here as they look like they are perhaps sneaking to a location in preparation for an attack.

When I first commented I did not notice that there were already some thrusters visible. Now that I see them i really like the way you have handled them. They are very subtle, and I really like them so please keep the thrusters.

Wow the detail really stands out very nice looking ships and I agree those are some big canons. So now we need a scene with canons blaring and sparks flying. I am afraid if those canons fire the ship will go backwards so you had better turn up those thrusters. Ha

Thank you. This picture with the flying cannons came out much better than the last. I do plan on keeping the thrusters however some of the ships do not have any because the light for the engine was not grouped to the cannon when I made more but thats okay. Does ANYONE have any suggestions on how to make laser fire that would look awesome coming from these cannons? I have tried and so far I have nothing. If you want the model to play around with the texture/ laser stuff you can have it (**free of charge!**)

I echo all the positive remarks made so far. I'm being the spoilsport here: I miss viewports. Everything else is indeed top notch. As for the lasers. Have you tried stretched cylinders or stretched cones?

Horo's suggestion is the best place to start. I am not sure if you have looked in the Materials Exchange but there are some good fire materials free for downloading. Don't forget you can stretch the tube or the cone to get the desired affect and then apply the volume material to the object and then adjust the amount of fire you want using the materials lab using the Fussy Factor and the Base Density. And you can duplicate your cone or what ever object you use and combine different fire materials together and if you get brave you can change the color of the materials. This is what I did in my Terminated space scene for the thrusters and Horo did for his the fire in his Gorilla scene . Just experiment and you will start getting the hang of it.

Lasers

Do any of you know how Krickerd made this picture http://www.bryce5.com/details.php?image_id=2757. I think that the glowing ball with a different color might look kinda cool instead of one long beam. More like a canon.

Not much to add. You should line up the formation of the aircrafts. Those ships that are detaching you might need to rotate the texture in the editor so it maps correctly on their wings. Other then that I have no qualms. The light is very nice and contributes to the scene as it should.
