And where's my Internet access?!
Description: The gorilla is from DAZ3D, the bars are cubes and the bowls spheres. For the fire, several cones with different volume fire materials were used. For each fire, there is also a radial - the only light used. Two terrains for ceiling and floor and the ground plane for the water puddles. Very conventional, nothing fancy, except the network render. For the first time, I used an Internet connection through a VPN about 400 miles one way to connect two dual core laptops side by side on my desk.

I think the lighting here is spectacular. Nice work Horo! I find the gorilla threatening.

Looking very good. I like the cave design and the lighting from the fire in the bowls. I am guessing that you places a small radial in front of the gorilla's face to bring out more contrast and visibility? Is the texture material on the cave terrains from Bryce?

Thanks! I get quite threatening, too, when my Internet connection breaks. No, RenderMan, all light comes from the radials in the fires. There is one hidden behind the Gorilla and another one back of the camera at right. The material on the rocks is a combination of a texture from the library and one made by myself, mixed with direction.

You don't seem to hide your signature anymore, at least that "hiding" is an impression I was left with seeing your previous works. About your statement - this makes two of us, Horo, the Internet connection is vital for some of my works and "threatening" isn't a powerful enough expression to describe what would happen ;) if...

Anyway, I can think of a few things while I'm looking at this image. The first one and the most important is "lighting". Wise choice for the spots where the "fire" light lies "positioned". It dramatically illuminates the scene making the ape to look creepy... angry, I wouldn't go near this cage.

Another thing is specularity. Over the rock ceiling I think it should've been with tighter spec. halo and strong almost pure white highlight. Right now it tends to look slightly on the plastic side. Coarse bump could've helped too combined with specularity. The material itself as a color nuance and texture scheme is a successful one.

The rusty bars and the ground will also benefit from tight and strong specularity. This way the rusty metal will apear even more metalic and wet, and the gorund will blend noticably more with the water puddles. Finally your well setup lighting will weld toghether all the pieces.
