Utah Desert
Description: I was trying to capture some of the scenery I have seen in Utah. A mixture of high resolution terrains with different materials applied. Any comments are welcome.

It reminds me of the Bryce canyon. It also reminds me of the splash picture for Bryce 5.5 done by David and featured here http://www.bryce5.com/details.php?image_id=1388 - which means such can be done in Bryce, too. Nice work RenderMan.

I agree that this looks wonderful. I love it in every way! I think Bryce can do those mountains but the vegetation could be difficult for Bryce. Very nice!

Agreed, the vegetation would bring bryce to a standstill, the effect can be obtained through materials to some extent, but not easily or convinceingly for close up objects. The ground looks good, colours and form, looks the part. I'm not sure about the atmosphere, looks more like a dull day at the sea-side than desert. But I don't know, I've never been in a desert to say.

I was out of town for a few days. Thanks again for you comments I have know doubt that Bryce can do most of this but as mentioned the vegetation is very nice in Vue.

David I was seeking realism in this scene and might mention that the California fires have really impacted Utah so the atmosphere is the result of the smoke. Ha
Ok on the serious side we do have some overcast and some haze pending on which way the wind is blowing. But for the most part we have nice clear days but do have distant haze.

Nice detail. One cool thing about Vue is the proceedural terrains. The closer the camera is to the terrain, the more fractal detail it sees, thus there is no difference in the resolution setting. In this type of terrain, the resolution controls how large the fractal feature size is and how often it repeats.
