Cloud castles
Description: I looked in the sky and got inspired to try and form some decent looking 3d clouds. After a few hours of struggling I got less inspired. I consider volumetric clouds but the hideous render time put me off. In the end I settled for terrains that are slightly transparent. The model ship is one that came free with bryce. The streaming light effect was put in in bryce. The final image was gamma corrected and colour tinited for dramatic effect.

Excellent composition, very dramatic indeed. One wonders a bit about the colour, but it is the artists choice. Those clouds make an excellent snow covered mountain. It is huge because its base is lost in the haze and it is far away - or is it a mirage? There are too much hard edges around the very bright and less bright areas to make me think of clouds. There are some good parts like the round buldge towards the right which make it difficult to see a mountain. The light rays are very convincing.

Absolutely astounding and dramatic!! The colors are simply perfect. Knowing that there are so many strange/bizarre cloud forms like this for example over Hawaii, I have no qualms about yours in this render. If this image had been rendered with wider angle showing more of that majestic cloud-scape, I think the scene would look even more vast and dramatic. On the critical side - the ship here needs to have an appropriate texture/material on it, it looks like default gray mat now. Also some slight foam traces behind and more noticable splashes in front would possibly improve the final look of the ship. Aside from that minor thingy, David, this image could go for an expensive rare collector's edition postcard. Who can tell how high the price will jump if a large print inside a beautiful frame were to be put up for auction. Full marks earned!

I love the color scheme and the streaming rays from the sun. The ship does somehow seem very uniform in material setting. The water surface is terrific. I think the terrain as cloud is very interesting, though the bright parts seem very solid and uncloudlike, the more transparent parts work really well.

This one slipped by me must have been when I was gone for four days. It looks like you were heading in a direction with the clouds but this still turned out very nice. The rays seem to add the final touch to this scene another great work despite your clouds looking like ice cream.
