Fly Boys
Description: I was in the forth plane when this picture was taken. It was an inspiring moment it felt as if I could touch the clouds. OK back to reality this was done in Vue Studio Pro. I took my time and added six point lights to create some depth to the terrains as they were very dark with the sun in this position. Point lights on the two planes as they were barely visible. The clouds came from some sky presets that I purchased from the net. Sky is set to Global Ambience.

This is looking very good Renderman! Almost perfectly photorealistic. The lighting is superb, you made very effective decisions. The clouds are awesome, the bright sun is perfect. Not to sell the product but these are some really cool features of Vue software! Bravo! 5/5

Lighting is spot on and the clouds look excellent. At the first glance, the plane at left appears to be hit and is going to a dive (cloud at left). Watch such things (I always forget it and only see it afterwards). Sometimes, unrelated things appear aligned by the angle of view. We discover that it is unintensional only after beholding the scene more closely.

Yes Rashad the clouds in Vue are awesome. I am still experimenting and doing the online tutorials so hope to learn what is the equivalent to the materials lab called the Advanced Material Editor. Thanks again for you nice comments.

Horo thanks for you observations. You have a good eye. At first I did not understand your point until I read your comments again and then went back and looked at the plane . Yes I can see were that cloud could cause a visual effect of a plane going down.

There is a small lake between the clouds more to the bottom right which is hard to see. I tried to place a light in this area to highlight but was struggling with placement as a new user.

I read you comments to richter and it would be nice if more people would make comments on Bryce5. But I do appreciate the comments if it is only a few.

I'm right here, Render Man, sometimes I'm too late commenting the entries, but I still put a few words here and there when I can. And now I just cannot miss this one here, which due to the sunset colors almost looks like old monochromatic sepia photo. This "old-school" feeling is additionally amplified by the types of aircrafts you've chosen to depict. As Horo and Rashad, I also am impressed with the lighting and how it interacts with the clouds. The mountains in the back seem natural enough. Let me ask you one thing, I don't have Vue yet and I was wondering of the clouds have an ambient option, just like the ambient in bryce materials. My only criticism would be the lens-flare "rays" and glow around the sun and some weak jet streams behind the aircrafts. I think the sun here could go without the lensflare effect (if that's someting you can turn on /off of course). It'll be good to align a bit the models as suggested. Overall a really good work this is!

You are right this scene does look like an old monochromatic photo. Something like I would see in an old picture album. And this was quite an accident but thanks for the compliment.

I am looking in the Atmosphere editor under "clouds" and they have a list of options such as altitude, height, cover, density, opacity, detail amount, altitude variations, and ambient lighting and also shadow density.

If you want to check out some tutorials to see some of the features you can go to http://www.geekatplay.com/tutorials.php These tutorials are free and they just included a new tutorial called God Rays and another on how to use DAZ with Vue 6.

The lights all have access to gels, volumetric, shadow, lighting, influence and lens flares. The lens flare in Vue 6 Studio has intensity and radius for the lens flare along with adjustment for random streaks and reflections. I hope this answers your questions.

And yes this feature with the sun can be turned off in the atmosphere editor. If you use what is called Spectral model you get this effect which is affected by the light and ambiance settings. If you put it on Standard model you get a nice glow of the sun in a nice sunset color without the rays. But there is still much to learn so hope this is an accurate description .
