Numberstorm2 [hdr]
Description: As suggested a remake using hdr. Appart from the origional central light (otherwise the middle would be pretty dark) the scene is lit with Horo's bluegreymoon.hdr. Quality 64, Intensity and effect 5. Beacuse the light from the hdr is having to arrive from the outside travelling thorugh the walls of the box and thus backlighting the numbers, I don't feel it has the same impression of depth. This is not due to a flaw in hdr, I think, which dispite using the same number of light as the GI method used rendered in half the time, but more to do with the set up of the scene which was designed around interior lighting - all be it the interior of a random arrangement of numbers, it's still a box with a hole in the middle with a light in it and the camera, if you see what I mean?

There seem to be fewer shadows here. The 3d impression as you calculated previously is not as dynamic. Still it is a good render and would be very cool on its own. If you had rendered this at a higher ibl quality it would begin to look more realistic but it still would not match the "method" in accuracy.

Thanks for doing this comparison. I wasn't expecting a render here, I would have taken your word for your observation. Rashad is right, this is a very cool render in its own way but not as dynamic as the one with 5.31, now that I see them side by side. The other one has definitely an edge.

I would have thought this looked good if not great if I had not seen the other first. But the depth of field is not as strong and as was mentioned the shadows had a better affect in the first number scene. This just seems a little washed out but still a nice render.
