Rainbow Room Carrara 6 Pro
Description: I exported the walls and other models from Bryce6.1 into Carrara6 Pro. Being clueless generally about Carrara it took me over an hour to make sure I had everything set up more or less consistently.

In the Bryce version there was some question posed about the amount of color bleeding off of the walls, especially the red. Since Carrara has GLobal Illumination, I decided to test it againt the Bryce faked GI. In this case I engaged the global Illumination controls including indirect light. I ised standrd indirect light intensity no no tricks were employed to sway the render toward the brycce version. The general similarities between the two renders is undeniable. The spotlight do work in this case.

For me in terms of light the two renders are hauntingly similar. There is no doubt that the spotlights of the original version are leveling the playing field quite a bit in terms of GI simulation. True Gi is best and this scene rendered in maybe half the time required for the Bryce render. But still I think that the soft edged flattened spotlights are the single best hope that Bryce has for indirect light that matches Carrara in accuracy.

I can't deny this is uncannily simiar to the bryce render you produced. Well done!

In fact, your Bryce render looks better to me.

Thanks David. I like the Bryce render better also, it feels harder or bolder, more 3d somehow, Perhaps deeper contrasts and no banding as here. The jpg compression destroyed the smoothness of the walls of this Carrara render. The caustics though crude in Bryce are better than in Carrara. I enabled caustics and used a high caustif photon count but it did not help bright them out at all. Admittedly, I do not know enough about Carrara to get maximum results yet. But it does look promising, and fast.

Good idea to compare the two. They both look very nice and are very similar. It looks like you are developing some ways to make Bryce produce good bounce lighting or global illumination. The Carrara seems just a bit more shiny or richer but there would be a few variables between the two programs.

Thanks for this comparison. It appears that Bryce has a bit less light, the shadow banding are essentially the same. Pitty Carrara cannot - or hides the controls for - caustics. It's mostly because of that that I perceive the Carrara render as flatter.
