Scrolls
Description: I was tempted to make some kind of pun about going for a scroll in the park, but thought better of it. The "sculpture" is a almost random creation of tori made in wings 3D using the method outlined in the tutorials referenced here by Horo -http://www.bryce5.com/details.php?image_id=1946&mode=search

The lighting also and background also provided by Horo in the form of MysticalWood.hdr which was in turn made from a render of mine, well six renders, but that's a detail.

The scroll segments were made in wings3D. The rest is primitives. The green material I uploaded to the exchange a few weeks ago. The whole scene is duplicated using the fade mirror material (also to be found in the exchange). Which does not cast shadows and is altitude sensitive.

It never ceases to amaze me how you come up with this ideas. Very nice work I like the colors. What about the trees are they behind the camera or is this a picture?

I tried to use Wings along with Blender sometime back but because I paid for Hexagon I concentrated my time on learning some of the program but I am far from having the mastery of it.

Nothing less than amazing. The recycled renders turned HDRI is very effective. I love the curly ground plane. Incredible! 5/5

You use mirrors to create the endless effect?

Aye, the whole scene is sat in a box with the fade mirror material applied. The advantage of this over just a mirrored material is that the altitude controled trasnparency allows the reflected image to be blended with the background - which in this case, the trees - is the hdr.

I too have meddled with Hexagon, but like Carrara I find it difficult to deal with the interface and for most moddeling applications Wings3D is sufficiently capable.

Now those curly spiraling floor are really nice. Obviously, the can-opener daemon was at work here. The main figure reminds me of your Polished Iron Example (image 1932 here). The light from the HDRI is excellent for the subject matter. As background, however, I don't think it very fitting here. The floor fades in the distance and thus appears very large while the trees are near and blurred. For the original intention it would have been right.

Your decision, I haven't to agree. If you want to use this background, why haven't you used the HDRI just for light and take one of the rendered cubefaces on a 2D-face for background? It would have been well focused and you could have used DOF, which is better controllable than an HDRI? Having said this, I wonder why this hasen't occured to me before.

It likely has occurred to you before because it has occurred to me. I think the issue comes in matching the distortion. Depending on the mapping of the probe it might be hard to match it on a cube or 2d face. Likely the more accurate shape would be a sphere as background that would allow 3d rotation of the world while always maintaing a background. Disabling shadows would allow the ibl light to propogate normally.
