Description: Volumetric snow with motion blur added in psp7. It might seem like a simple enough image...

Looks great, though the lighting is a little bit weird... isn't it supposed to be cloudy and therefore use globalillumination? oh well, that might just happen in Kansas... Still it's great.

Collllddd..

I like the textures on the terrain, and also the bumpmapping once again enhances the image enormously :)
The snow is nice, I like the motion blurring effect, I have to try it out, seeing that PS 7 has the effect too.

A question: The ground looks as if it's half snow half ice, the terrain is reflecting off it. I'm just wondering how you got both reflections and nice bumpmapped snow in one? Or is it 2 planes combined?

Lighting and terrain and bumpmapping

It should be all cloudy but then you loose the bumpmapping effect which only seems to opperate thro the diffuse channel - artistic liscence. The foreground is one material - a mixture of rock and snow controlled by third channel slope texture. And in the distance an icy sort of material applied to an infinite plain. All materials lovingly hand made on tiny tiny lathes. Thank you for your comments. :o)

fantastic as usual

hey mate, good work, you are a legend at this, do you have a material creation techinque that you could share with the newbies of the site (i've been using bryce for a while now, but i havent really touched the material editor to create my own textures from scratch)
i like how the gully on the left looks like it is filled with soft powder snow

Material editor

The manual is invaluable in terms of providing terms and context... but to really get to grips with what is going on, what I did/and do is take existing bryce presets and play with individual settings to build up a feel for what is happeing and then bit by bit morph the material towards the one I want. After you've done that a few times you will know enough to start from scratch. I plan to do some tutorials on my website - when I get time - but work has to come first... :o(
