Metal Flower 1 Animation 1
Description: Ok. I've compressed the file with Xvid, http://www.xvid.org/ ,to a nice size for a quick download, about 5.2 meg, and the quality is good. This animation makes it look more like metal than glass so I renamed it occordingly.

Here's an uncompressed version in a self extracting archive that's about 128 meg for those of you who want to see the cleanest version of the animation. I assure you it's virus free but you can open it with WinRAR if you want to be safe.

Great animation! There are very interesting effects in the second half. Interesting from start to end. Great job!

Well, the uncompressed one has a hefty hard disk footprint with nearly 0.7 GB but the quality is better, much so when dragging the display window larger. But it is not 128 times better like the footprint is larger. Nevertheless, if the viewing window is enlarged, you can immerse completely in it and the smoke-ring like things present themselves beautifully. It's sometimes like going into hyperspace (though I wasn't in hyperspace yet, but it could give you that kind of impression). I must give you a fiver for this one. In fact, I liked the perifery more than the subject matter.

Thanks Horo!!!

I'm rendering a production size copy with a 16:9 aspect (704x480) for my portfolio. I'm dying to see this on my 32 inch Toshiba Regza. ;-)

Very intriguing I must say! Horo's right. The second half of the animation is really interesting. Glad to see it is already a 1min. long. Way to go. But once again, try to smooth your models one iteration more. The codec does its job slightly "smudging" the edges, but still... static images show it all.

Yeah. I know what you mean. The faceting on the edges of some of the petals bothers me. I'll have to smooth it more in Carrara. I put maximum smoothing on it in Bryce and I still got the faceting.

Very nice. I think the advice given above is appropriate. I would only suggest that perhaps the lights be given a little more dimension. It occured to me that everything in the animation was morphing except for the light. It seems like there is a prominent red light that could vary slightly between shades or reds from blue/reds to red/orange. I am suggesting a simple and very subtle morphing of the light hues, not saturation or brightness changes, as the intensity and saturation of that red light right now is perfect in my view. I also wonder if you might explore breaking up the center ball at some point as now there is a sense of certainty that though many morphs are possible none will be drastic enough to affect that center ball. It's a judgment call.

I am beginning to want to explore this abstract territory. These images are very beautiful and surely inspiring. Please keep it up!

Thank you, Rashad!!!!

I'll be playing with a version 2 of this one, or maybe one like it with a more refined target object I'll cook up in Carrara or Hexagon and I'll play with the lighing as well. Maybe animated color gradients would make for a cool effect. ;-)
