Cerulean Cross 3 Animation 1
Cerulean Cross 3 Animation 1

Cerulean Cross 3 Animation 1
Description: I was cooking this ine up while I was waiting to hear from Ballistic about the original image. In short, "Close but no cigar." Out of over 5000 entries I came pretty close and that's good enough for me. I'll just have to come up with something even better next time. ;-)

Anyway, This animation is in a 16:9 aspect ratio, which would cover a full widescreen monitor if I render it large enough. I did this at 480x270 at 30fps normal AA encoded with Divx 6.8 Pro.

Kickin' piece! The ani is good. If you made bounce outwards and back in to the center on beats to a song, it would make a great addon for windows media player.

Thanks FoxBoy!

I've been thinking about looking into how I can make some of my ANIs into sound responsive visualizations. That would be pretty cool. ;-)

Very nice, but I expected more. I have the impression there are repetitions. Zooming in one way is cool - why not starting to rotate or move the camera while zooming out? Well, these are suggestions. Don't take me wrong, spektyr, but I think this setup has the potential for a more varying animation. LiquidColorsAVI3, M12A2, or MetaballMeltdown1(to name a few) are much more mind-boggling.

Thanks Horo!

This was just an experiment. I know I can do more with it. I'm just getting a little frustrated with render speeds. I need a few really fast systems to replace these old jelopies with. AAAAARRRRRGGGGGGG!

You have notable skill at producing these images. The crystal feels very tangible, almost real. I like the realism touch in abstract pieces, helps me to connect with the piece. I think it is really nice the way this blue interacts with the light. It feels of real energy. Great work once again.

Oh yeah, having the processing power is all it takes. One can have lots of technical skill but if the computer takes too long to render an artist's creativity becomes cramped. Hang in there. The render sppeds amoung other things are what make Carrara so ideal. If only I could get accustomed to Carrara. All in it's time I guess.

Thanks Rashad!

Processor power is what I need. Once I get my SSD I'll be able to build new minimal systems with just what I need for high speed rendering. I want the fastest bus, processor and memory speeds available, minimal OS configuration and render clients. No bells and whistles, just pure processing power.

The frustrating thing is waiting for these bureaucratic bozzos to do the right thing already. GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

I know what you mean. After years of holding myself back I am finally enjoying the benefits of a new system, with 8 processing cores. I can render in less than a day projects that used to take a week. My creativity is flowing much more smoothly and I am getting alot more accomplished and the images look better because of the higher quality settings. Each processor is 2.5gig. A total of 5 gigs of processing power over 2 intel zeon quadcore processors. No lie, it renders at about 10x the speed of my single core celeron 2.8gig processor system. The celeron system had a front side bus of just 400mz. My new system runs at 1333fsb.The added processing cores, fsb, and ram mean alot more than shear processing power of a single core machine. Definetly I suggest you purchase a system that features multiple processors or at least multiple cores. Good Luck man.

Curious. Maybe we could conduct a test. If the source file is not too large to be sent via e-mail I would be willing to render it for you to give you an idea of how much time it takes to complete on a system like mine. Buying new systems is costly and frustratng as technology improves so quickly. Knowing what to expect is important. You said you want top of the line, my computer is not quite there as individual processor speeds go up to 3.6gigs for intel quadcore zeons, a 7.2gig total system would cost about $6K. I spent just around $3k for dual 2.5 gig Zeon quadcore processors providing 5gigs. I spent much more than I could actually afford. Had it built from scratch by a company not a friend so if it fails me I can seek legal recourse later. Right now it seems like a worthwhile investment. My same system will go for around 1k less by this time next year likely.
Fast is never fast enouch sadly, Bryce is a slow render no matter how you slice it. Carrara destroys bryce for speed though Bryce has that lovely plop render that Carrara lacks. Render speed is still one of the greatest drawbacks for Bryce.

Renderspeed

I'm not yet convinced that Carrara is a faster renderer than Bryce. We need comparable source files that can render on both. Speaking of render time: would you share your results for the test at http://www.horo.dyndns.org/raytracing/rendertest.html ?

Renderspeed

Horo,
I intended to do this test long ago and somehow neglected to do so . I finally got around to it thanks to your reminder. Moment of truth.

System specs as follows:
@XI Computer Corporation
2x Intel Xeon Quadcore Processors 2.5 Ghz
2gb ram
1333mhz Front Side Bus
750gb HD
Nvidia Quatro 570 256mb
Ms Windows XP Service Pack 2
Running Bryce 6.1

Results:
Normal Priority (1 processor carrying 4 cores)
00:01:26. Roughly a minute and a half.

High Priority (2 processors carrying 8 cores)
00:00:46. Well under a mnute.

The fastest test results I see on your link Horo show roughly 00:03:30 in B6.1. At high priority my system completes the render in a quarter of that time. Big difference especially if you think in terms of days of rendering. I think the results might be even more pronounced in files that involve alot of lights and transparencies. I must say that after this test I am realizing just how fast this beast I purchased really is. Even at this speed I have been able to cause it to crash with little difficulty. I have even experienced multiple day long renders. It makes me shutter to think of how long these scenes would take on slower systems. In all fairness I feel I am saving on my electric consumption by completing the scenes sooner, helping to save a little money and the environment. I may run the test again on my single core celeron just to be sure it really is 10x slower than my new xeon system.

Also, Carrara renders so fast on my new system that it is almost scary, really. It uses all 8 cores effectively, and loads each core separately, meaning that if core 3 is stuck doing a difficult calculation, the other cores keep at the scene. Sometimes the bottom of the scene renders before the top has been completed. This makes up a little bit for the lack of plop render.
It is not just the fact that Carrara is fast but that it provides much better light quality in such a short time. If you were to render an indoor scene in bryce with secondary lights all around to bounce the light, and then render the same scene in Carrara with just one light but with GI engaged, the Carrara version will be faster in every way. Faster to set up, and much faster to render, and alot more accurate, even better! For me there is no comparison but admittedly I have only scratched the surface of what Carrara can do. I might take back all that I have said about fast renders once I engage higher quality effects.

Holy sh...! Fourty six seconds?! Congrats there, Rashad!

Spektyr, I really like the animation you did. Of course, what Horo sais is obvious to me too. The scene, though experiment, has a big potential. You're getting better and better with each next project - that is obvious too, buddy. Keep on going. The CPU is important, I agree, but I don't think this is gonna stop you from doind what you're doing.

Thanks Richter!

My old equipment cramps my creativity but it doesn't stop me. I'm going to submit a few images to Ballistic trying for ELEMENTAL 3 this time. That book is primarily for images done with Autodesk software but I've been advised they will accept stuff done with other software as well. I'm going to try Cerulean Cross 3a this time. I think the visual impact of that image is superior to the original version. I'm sending them Chain Reaction 2 and a few others as well. I have until the 27th to get it all submitted. I made it to the top 10% on my last try and that's pretty darn good. ;-)
