Empty One Room Studio Apartment
Description: No IBl this time. It caused far too much banding as it interacted with the window panes.

A study in indirect lighting. Ideally, direct sunlight enters the window, strikes the floor, and then bounces around illuminating the rest of the room as indirect light. Since Bryce does not calculate this bouncing I have placed spotlights to foster the bounce. Soft Shadows engaged. Sunlight provided with a dome of 80 lights placed very far away. Indirect lighting provided by 14 secondary light sources at different strengths and positions. Total render time about 7 hours on this current system. It is about 10x the faster in render speed than my single processor celeron was, so this would have taken about 70 hours on that system. I am curious how much more quickly this scene will render with hard shadows so I will test that out abd post the results. Thanks for your time. Feedback is appreciated.

I thought it was an indigo render from the thumbnail, very good lighting. The only feedback I can give you is that the shadows from the fridge, stove and cabinets should be a lot softer, but I don't think that is possible with bryce not letting you adjust softness beyond the highest level.

Thanks gat! I was trying to think like Carrara or Indigo as I was placing the lights and estimating the positions, brigthness, and color of the secondary lightsources. It really menas alot to me that you find the lighting more or less convincing.

I think I could soften the shadows further by adding more lightsources. More lights seems to always be the answer. I will eventually occupy the room with a few objects, I'm thinking of some person just Arriving in New York City today, just signed the lease, who doesn't even have electricity. I plan to include a suitcase with a tag from Kansas or something, the idea of making sacrifices to be where you want to be to do what you want to do. Thanks gat for the feedback on the lighting. The light was my exercise in this piece.

The lighting does convince me. It appears as of this "photograph" has a very high dynamic range with the sun shining on the floor of the otherwise rather dark room. If you take a closer look, shadows are always a bit of an issue. As soon as you start to populate the room a bit, those things will get more attention. You did well with your experiment. Why not give an HDRI a chance? It will be tricky, too - select an appropriate one and then rotate and tilt it to give the desired effect, and then the balance between intensity and effect.
