Mobing Revisited
Description: Well the terrain is more surreal but I like the blend and the depth that is created from having the terrain surround the lake. But still open for comments as I am have much to learn.

nice rocks! They don't look anything near real, but they look some much better. Learning is perhapses the best and worse part of the processes. Everyone has their talents and for the most part you probably be bug that they can do things you can't. It just a good thing to know that its not one way, even with beginners. The bird sizes seem off somehow. 4/5.

Even a surreal terrain ought to be plausible and you did it here! It fits nicely. Though the sky is not bad, it does not fit here - it appears too "tame" for this scene.

I certainly will be doing some better terrains in the future but I really did like the look of this terrain with the water. I really never thought much about the clouds accept that I liked the blue color it seemed to constrast with the the blues in the rest of the scene.

Horo, what kind of sky would you put in a scene like this? I am always open for suggestions.

Perhaps more fluffy, less hazy sort of clouds. There is no apparent bright light source - sun, but rather more diffuse light so a grey sky with heavy clouds could also be something to experiment with. The scene as such has a certain drama - the small birds attacking the large one, etc. So the picture would probably profit from a more dramatic - higher contrast - lighting.

Thanks for the comments the best way for me to learn is to get suggestions. I did put two bulbs in this scene but in a novice sort of way. The one is making it look like the sun is shining on the water. But I do understand what you are saying and will see if I can make some improvements.

I am working on terrains right now from the Bryce wips forum dicsussion. But I will get back to this picture again and see if I can improve the clouds and the terrain. How many times can I submit this picture? I am really not sure of you mission statement for this forum?

Submit as many times as you please. When you are looking around here, you will find members submitting many versions while others try to use the knowledge given in a new scene altogether and hardly submit a corrected or improved version. This is a free world.

This image seems to be improved in a way. I like this Revisited version of "Mobing" because of the bigger distance between the camera and the birds. Such a point of view I think is more closer to what a man could observe in nature. I mean you cannot expect those birds to fight in front of our faces, right, so the more distant perspective is what you have to hold on here. The other version has more natural color for the nearest brown rock and the water is more convincing. You have good suggestions for the sky and lighting to experiment with. All I can add is that you should use 1024 resolution terrains. Those could successfully pass both for close rock formations and more distant mountains. Keep up.

Thanks for your comments richter. I think this was a high resolution terrain. I try to sometimes use the massive resolution or the 1024. I think some noise may have helped in the terrain and I could have made a more surreal sky by using the materials lab. But I am still learning and always appreciate the pointers.
