Chain Reaction 4a
Description: This has settings very similar to ver. 3. It brings back that nice contrast and the links reflected below the main construct have a nice 3D look. I can't even tell that they are in fact reflections.

All comments welcome.

The more I look at this piece the more I think that in one way or another the symmetry "kills" the intriguing aspect of your image, so you have to "count" only on reflections/spec. to "save the day", and even so the symmetry still prevents the eye to see the potential "big wow". All the three renders I like equally. Mainly because there are certain qualities in "Chain Reaction 3" (such as most frequent dark areas, providing good lvl of overall contrast), which I miss in the other 2 renders. Then again 4, and especially 4a vers. has very beautiful reflections that look almost "carved" within the geometry. Saying geometry, you mentioned something about a vertex modeler. Why don't you evolve the abstract idea for an odd model of some sort. You could then implement it in your style of imagery and loose some unneeded symmetry on the way. I'm only suggesting you to "break" things appart a little bit... if you wish.

Thanks, Richter!

I've been contemplating creating some asymmetrical vertex models in Carrara to use in new abstracts. I also need to get to know Carrara much more intimately instead of just for vertex modeling. I want to try doing a few pieces completely in Carrara 6 Pro as a prelude to exploring it's animation capabilities. I also want to see if it will render faster than Bryce on my network

Not that I'm getting tired of Bryce mind you. I just feel it's time to broaden my horizons a bit, if you know what I mean. ;-)

Agreed with the previous comments by richter and you yourself. Same here in the way of Carrara. I love bryce but Carrara as we all know is very powerful. I too have been dabbling with it and plan to upload some Carrara renders soon.

Though I like this one, too, it appears to me to be the most crowded of them all. I wonder how a picture would look with only the reflections of the nearest vertical torus. It's the most detailed part of the picture. #3 looks down and I still like that one the most. "Overdoing" symetry when using mirrors is always a bit of an issue. Reducing Max Ray Depth sometimes helps, another option would be to use a mirror chamber which doesn't have parallel walls, just slightly trapezoid. And, of course, as richter mentioned, a non-symetrical object might also break it up a bit.
