Metaball Vortex 1a
Description: It's finally finished! Bryce reports a render time of 3 days 8 hours+ but that is definitely wrong. It's just under 2 days.

I realize that this image is a bit on the grainy side because I rendered it at the default 16 RPP. It would take much too long at a higher setting so I'm leaving it as is. My computers are giving me that "Please don't torture us again!" look. It's not one of my better works but it's interesting anyway. ;-)

All comments welcome.

Apart from its grainyness, it is also otherwise a bit nervous - a bit high frequency. However, I do like the different look, it is not as smooth as your earlier works. A very nice "wavy" spiral that pulls the viewer into the vortex. As for the render time - have you enabled "Report render time" in the render options? In my experience, the time reported there is quite accurate, the estimation usually isn't and it covers only the time to render, not the AA-ing. If you use premium render, there is no separate AA-ing but the estimated time to render is often quite far off.

Again, good job man. Good to see you experimenting with new setups. Keep it up.

I perceive this one as a bit "disturbing", and maybe some colors need to be off the pic. I mean the red, black, the green and the yellow made a nice combo together, but this darkblue color I find not to my liking here.

Horo-
Thanks. Yes I did enable that option and it reported over 3 days 8 hours. That can't be right. I'll swear it was only working for about 2 days. I puased it for a little while to do something else that required full system speed but that was only for 2 hours.

This is another one that could have use a higher RPP but 64 would have taken over a week. I could take down the 'nervousness' with a lower RD and smooth things out a bit I suppose. I'm going to give my systems a rest for a few days. I don't need to be burning out any processors. I'm going to dust out the enclosures, clean the heat sinks then clean and lubricate the fans. They're staring to get noisy again. lol

Richter-
I'm disappointed with the colors too but not for the same reasons as you. This one was mostly an experiment. I wish it had come out better considering a 2 day render time. I won't call it a failure since I believe no attempt at creation ever is. It could use some improvement though. ;-)

same as above, it is as if it shouldn't have been made in a 3D program, maybe you could try using some photoshop filters like dave got on the last couple of images, only I would recomend going for more of a painted look.

As Gat suggests, post production filtering of one of your visually simpler symetrical pieces, perhaps with sworls or vortex could save you valuable render time and also offer greater flexibility in terms of your final outcome. Never the less, don't be discouraged from your experiments by results that are not 100% to your satisfaction, it is only through the continual questing and experimentation that happy accidents arrive and offer something novel and unexpected. I'm satisfied if I am happy with one picture in every twenty. This image to me seems a little too "mingled" like stired up paint. It almost works for me but I think the grainyness spoils the overall effect somewhat as I think you have already conceeded.

Thanks guys!

Gat-
I haven't fully explored post production in Photo Shop or Photo Impact yet. I'm having a rough time with my joint problems and severe alergy symptoms lately so I'm not doing much work. When I'm feeling better I'm going to look into these things as well as get aquainted with Carrara 6 Pro. It's been a while since I did any modeling and I've been thinking of doing some experiments with vertex modeled mirror boxes. ;-)

David-
I'm not discouraged at all. Even if my experimentation doesn't produce results that I'm completely satisfied with I still learn something from it so it's not a failure.

The only thing bothering me right now is the damper my physical difficulties is putting my my creativity. I'm sure things will improve eventually. I just have to ride it out for now.

Hello!

I like it Spektyr! How are you? I did'nt see your work for some time so I took a much needed vacation from the computer myself. I just recently moved to the beach : ) . Been spending more time at the ocean. It's good to see you are still at it. A little grainy but very interesting. Lots to look at here. 4/5 and keep em coming.
