My Nocuous Cross
My Nocuous Cross

My Nocuous Cross
Description: Well, here's my lil' "walkthrough" on how I made my Nocuous Cross. There was a new version of Apophysis available, so I was anxious to try it out. I made a 2k *.png texture, which later mapped onto a Bryce terrain with the same resolution (2048x). With Photoshop I desaturated the texture in order to make a bump-map. I used it both for the bump channel and to create the bryce terrain. This way I get a double effect for the bump and slightly more 3d-ish look (the terrain was fairly low as height btw).

The crystals, vines and the barbed wire are maya paint effects I converted to polygons and imported and textured in Bryce. The Cross was modelled in maya. The scene was lit by "Japan_subway2_FINAL.hdr" with linear falloff, Q-16, Int-10, hdri fx-10, rad-30. Since the apophysis png texture was transparent enough and the hdr backdrop was visible, I needed to place a pure-black cube beneath the terrain. The scene was rendered without shadows, because I didn't really need them.

Why does this remind me of a birthday cake without candles? Very nice and detailed elaborate work. I like it, but it is not my favorites of your works using Apophysis. I'm awed at your proficiency to meld different applications to create one great picture.

Complex and very Richter. Love the many colors and the feeling of fabric. It reminds me of some things I've seen rendered in Hoodini. Nice!

Thank you all. This pic was a bit personal. You know how things are going when you have to express your mood, the way you feel, and show it the best way you can (the "Hurt" img represents a part of this story too :)). I myself am satisfied with the results. Glad to see the positive feedback also. Bryce terrains are usefull "option" to tweak, one of the versatile and handy tools Bryce has to offer.
