Solace
Description: I had to add the fairies from DAZ because they flew away when I took the photographs for the HDRI yesterday, roaming in the forest. It looks a bit sweet, I know, but this is in fact how I perceived it.

The forest is a tone-mapped HDRI I made from 5 photographs with my camera on the Joby, which was fixed on a tree. There is a cylinder outside the picture to cast a shadow that matches the one on the photograph. I couldn't dim that bright wing, hence I used the Streaming Rays from Denny Markovic (Frozencry).

The scene is lit exclusively with my JeeprobeSun light-probe (essentially the same as MoonBlueGreySun). It was tilted and rotated to match the position of the real sun when the pictues were taken (X=100?, X=28?). Quality 16, Intensity 3 and HDRI-Effect 20.

Beautiful. Fitting real photography with digital imagery is very challenging. Great job!

Is that hdri? the resolutions must be huge, background is very clear. I think that they could use some shadows, I don't know if it is possible to catch shadows in bryce or not.

The tonemapping of the backdrop give it an almost painted quality which lends itself well to your fae subject. The streaming light, while good, I think is perhaps a little too focused and by being so makes it at first glance difficult to grasp what it is. The Jeeprobesun lighting does not look out of place with the backdrop, well done matching the light. My only quibble is that the faries seem to be afloat due to their lack of shadows, to be integrated better into the image some postwork or (pre-postwork) on the backdrop could help darkening the area in which they are to appear to be sitting to aid the illusion that they are part of the scene.

Thanks for your comments. Yes gat, the tone-mapped HDRI is here rendered at 1/3 of its resolution. You and David are quite correct about the shadows - that's why I posed the fairies in the shadow of the picture. I've seen a thread in the DAZ Bryce forums just about how shadows might be catched. The fairies are indeed floating and I think I did a good job in hiding this fact. But it is still visible, I certainly agree. To create this picture, I went the wrong way about : I wanted to use the picture and the fairies just seemed the best thing to include. Another experiment.

This scene reminds me of the photo taken many years ago by those 2 little girls out in the forest. Fact or fiction? Very nicely done Horo!

I couldn't have created an image this good so I'm just going to say "She's not picking fleas out of his hair, is she?" [evil grin]

Very nice work, Horo! 5/5

Very nice, Horo, calm, piecefull, I really like that picture. Excellent shot, and admirable hdri-creation work once again. Most has been said already, so I can only suggest (if you are stilll using photoshop for post-work) to render the fairies separate from the forest and then add them in a layer in photoshop. The idea of what I'm saying is to make those yellow wings slightly transparent so the background is barely visible within. With the Eraser tool with low opacity and flow of the soft brush, you can "paint" the edges and middle parts more transparent. That would certainly blend the fairies better with the surrounding forest and may even solve the shadowing "issue".
