Mysterious 1
Description: I've always admired images that have a gleaming "I think I can just reach in and touch that" look of reality to them. While experimenting....again :-) ....I've succeeded in creating one. I'm calling this 'Mysterious 1' because it's the first in a new series and because the image is not what it appears to be. It is an optical illusion created by light, reflection and specularity that was achieved quite by accident, the same way a lot of my images were. This one is really satisfying for me. It has a free form look with areas that seem translucent but it is all reflection. I used a white sun and a red spotlight ring.

Even though it has a dark look and an almost blood color - Halloweenie!! LOL ? my heart jumps for joy at the realism in this image!

All comments welcome.

wow cool, the reflections and specularity make it look very real, and the colors too. it would be interesting to see an animation of this.

Thank you Gat and Rashad!

On the test renders my jaw dropped into my lap! LOL
This one is a MegaWOWser!

Now to ponder how I can animate this type of image. It's created with a low freq. bump mapped onto the inner surface of a mirrored sphere. I can try rotating the noise pattern in two different directions like I did with the Shadow Skin Mat......(Spek's mind drifts off into the loonie genius zone once more)

you could try to mix a transition between two or more bump materials, and even colors, and rotate the sphere

Cool!

Looks to me like red glass just blown and bent into the swirls. It could even be the coating of candied apples! Very good. 5/5 . Man I have to play catch up now! You have been a busy boy : )!

Sorry, been away for a moment. I couldn't connect to the Internet, but what else would you expect, after all, I'm working for a telecom company that sells Internet conectivity to virtually anywhere on the world, including sea and air.

Anyway - this is a very nice piece of "accidental" art you've created here, spectyr. I love the hint of symetry in a non-symetrical image. The coolor is hot. I'm a bit ambivalent about it - somehow it looks like some body organ and somehow like a ruby. Specularity is very effective here.

I'm an 'Accidental Abstractionist'! I like that. :-)

Maybe I should change my psudonym to Serendypytee. LOL

It does look realisticly wet and glossy, but I'm not convinved I'd want to reach into the monitor and touch it (at least until I knew exactly what it was I was touching). Appealing and vaguely disturbing at the same time. Accidental Abstractionism, I will have to add that in if I'm asked to do another art talk. Very nice.

The truth is that all of these abstracts are a direct result of experimentation. I suppose you could also call it 'Experimental Abstractionism'. ;-)

And I'm not sure I would want to touch it either. It looks too much like The Blob. It may suck me in and digest me! YIKES! ;-)
