Metaball Meltdown 1 Animation
Description: WHEW! This one took almost 30 hours to render. I think it's worth the wait though. :-)

This experiment turned out better than Shattered. It's smooth and goes through nice transitions between symmetrical and asymmetrical, although I think I should have taken the diffusion down a bit to give it more contrast. No flashing or jumping here. It may bring on some dizziness in those prone to sea sickness so view it at your own risk. ;-)

All comments welcome.

PS. Don't ask about that black circle at the end. It's another unexpected occurance.

Yup - definitely better than shattered. Quite interesting how this thing develops. As you said, contrast is a bit low, but it is not a show stopper at all. I like how the direction changes and there are moments when things look very 2D-ish.

Thanks Horo!

I think it would gain dimensionality if I cut the diffusion but a 30 hour render makes me hesitate. After all these are just experiments for now. I'm just gaining experience towards a longer 720p production I can submit to animationtrip.com and maybe make it onto one of their Odyssey Mind's Eye DVDs. One of my favorites has a segment called 'Grinning Evil Death' that features my all-time favorite superhero Captain Sarcastic. ;-)

Yeh, great job spektyr. The render is very nice, and the animation is pleasing to look at. I have to agree through with horo it did look a bit 2D at times, the first one it looked as if the shapes went passed you, and as the camera moved they got in front of each other, and I am talking about no the shards one, but the once before that.

Thanks Gat!

I have a new one running that should look Super 3D. It looks like a faster render so I'm hoping to get it posted later today. ;-)

BTW, you guys wanted rotation so I'm giving you rotation....in opposing directions. I think this one is going to be really impressive. ;-)

I made one of my clever changes to the new one and it looks like it's going to be a real dazzler! ;-)

I just love Bryce!

spektyr,

if you have only reflections in your material settings, then you should consider exporting your scene, and animating and rendering it in blender. blender renders reflections much faster.

Export the scene to Blender? How do you propose I do that? I can see exporting objects but I'd have to set up the object and camera motion once I have them in Blender. Right?

yes, its the same as in bryce, only controlling the objects is much easier even for a first time user.
to animate all you have to do is open the time line and the set it to automatic just like in bryce, then move the time line a few frames and move the object, then do it again, and so on, its very easy. If you want to, I can do it for you and send you the blend file.

"If you want to, I can do it for you and send you the blend file."

Where's the fun in that? LOL
Besides, If it wins an award some day I'd have to share the stage with you. I'm a pretty big guy. There might not be any room for you. ;-)

You know I'm kidding of course. I wouldn't be opposed to a collaborated effort and I would certainly give you all the credit due you if we ever did collaborate on an award winning production.

Here's an idea. You, David, Horo, Rashad, Alex, Tina, me and the rest of the bryce5.com regulars can team up and form Cognitive Dysfunction Productions. Wouldn't that be fun? ;-)

For now I'll start playing with Blender myself. I have to take the plunge some time, right?

Yeah, you might as well do it now.

Oh, and am sure that C.D.F. will be success. By the way, where is Dave? Is he on vacation?

I don't know where Dave is. I was wondering the same thing myself. He probably is on vacation. He'll have a lot of animation files to sample when he gets back. ;-)

This looks great. The quality of your rainbow abstracts is always very high and this one has certainly responded well to animation. The render time isn't too shoddy either. I often accept a single image in 30 hours so I'd be most content to get an entire animation in that same time. And again, one of such high production values is certainly something of an achievement. Well done. As for my absenting myself, seems I managed to rupture something in between one end of my guts and the other and have been quite poorly. I won't provide any gory details, I leave that to your imaginations. It was nearly bad enough to prompt me to visit the doctors, which, to provide some kind of context, my appendix rotting away completely wasn't. Anyhow...
