Wood Yard Planet-X (No Postwork)
Description: This scene is made of 7 boxes, two terrains, a DAZ dog, and some hair. Lighting is from HDRI. This version is the no post work version, I will upload once I have finished the photoshoped version. But for now feel free to comment on things that might need improvement. So far I am aware of the sky, blurry background, hair sticking out, no good shadows on the ground from the hair, and lack of DoF.

The hair and wood shaders can be downloaded here and details are there too, I recomend that you guys check them out:

I can't help but feel that something is missing from this render, either that or the composition is totally screwed up, any ideas? I can't even get anything descent out of this in photoshop.

I'm not convinced. The wolf looks as carved from wood, spektyr has certainly a point with drift wood and psychodelic grass.

Okay, the drift wood texture looks great but only when viewed from far away. Up close it shows itself as a procedural. The sky is very intresting but I cannot describe currently the reason why. Psychadelic grass makes me think of "grass." The dog looks good but would look much better with dynamic hair applied to it. Also it appears as though the dog is looking at something...what is he looking at?

~Horo, I don't know hot to make the dog look more realistic, maybe motion blur?

~rashad, I have to disagree with you the wood texture looks better up close to the camera, its from far away that you can tell what it is, up close you can see how the displacement map is working to create this look of old, decaying wood, with dry spots on the tips and wet spots closer to the center away from the wind. There is only one image texture used, and its barely noticeable.
I have to agree with you about the grass shader it is out of place.
Oh, and its look at where it is walking so it doesn't trip ;P

thanks for tha comments, I will upload version 2 soon.

I see what you mean about the procedural. I think what works about the procedural is the shading of seemingly bark and it's shadows. It looks to me almost like an object space mapping in bryce the way it seems to come from the center of the model. I have not yet really invested the time to Carrara I thought I would have by now so I have no real critique or advice to offer other than so far so good!

Oh, its just the lighting and the way I got the type of displacement texture I used, I could have it follow in another direction, but I this looked realistic. Its hard to tell exactly what this texture is, if you download the shader and use it on a cube you will see how good it is :)
