Alien Queen 3
Description: Blender model and rig by Franz Munz
@ antaressith@gmx.ed
he modeled it from a plastic version of the alien, so it has some toy parts, which you all will ignore from now on ;)

I did some step traicing to find the link again:
http://www.scifi3d.com/list.asp?intGenreID=19&intCatID=44

And here is the final version. This time I turned on reflection blur for everything. I turned off Sky Light, and used three spot lights with no shadows, blue and yellow colors, a top directional light with soft shadows blue color to simulate Sky Light of the HDRI so that I don't have to wait 4 days for it to render. Also I forgot to add that I had ray traced DoF enabled for this image and V2.

Oh and the box material also has a fine bump, thats why it looks sandy.

Good choice of colours and material on pedestal and beast. Excellent pose, too. The shadowy background enhances the somehow sinister impression. So you used the HDRI only as backdrop and as a reflection map. Great piece of artwork.

A very good render. It looks perfectly plausible as an indoor/outdoor combo render. In the other version the influence of the sky is rather strong and legitimate, placing the model squarely outdoors. In this version I see very little impact from the blueness of the sky so I feel that this model must be underneath something that is blocking the skylight. Still outdoors, but not completely exposed to the sky. This version is very realistic just like the other version. Gat, great work in Carrara!!! It makes me wonder why Carrara is not used more often for film work?

thanks again, I appreciate the input.

the reason behind this lighting setup is to simulate the little light from the sky, and the light from the lamps around the place, as well as cars, and other sources, which are a mix of blue and orange 85% of the time.

Well, carrara is a good program for us and some professionals, but other then commercials Carrara doesn't have good animation tools, through now it has been changed with version 6, but the rest of the industry won't realize it for awhile, then there is a real real lack of a video and image compositor in carrara (the basic video as a background is not nearly enough). And stability issues, not high enough polygon handling, RAM allocation issues, broken physics engine, no render displacement support, etc..
