Queen2
Description: Blender model and rig by Franz Munz
@ antaressith@gmx.ed
he modeled it from a plastic version of the alien, so it has some toy parts, which you all will ignore from now on ;)

I did some step traicing to find the link again:

Here I turned off reflection blur and just rendered everything on a box. Sky Light Enabled

Having the object on a pedestal makes this scene absolutely plausible. Here, we would have preferred the direct sunlight on the creature to see how the shadows turn out.

I definatly like this one the best. It looks more realistic. Very good job posing it. I think the location of the buildings also make a difference. Great work! You get my vote 5/5.

Just like the other peers I feel that this one is the best of the series. I think that in a scene where there is open sky an artist cannot disable the skylight because the sky has a huge impact on the world beneath it. I don't think an outdoor scene can be rendered convincingly without skylight. Reflection blur would only be necessry if you were faking the bouncing light of GI. Blurred reflections are bryce's only hope for a bounced light feel, but Carrara can calculate this stuff for real more or less, so no need to blur reflections. For my money this looks like a real photo. Excellent. I would now consider weathering effects on the model of the queen and the cube she sits on, it looks far too "new". 5/5

Oh Yes! The shininess of the creature material brings out a lot more of the surface detail and the soft focus of the background almost looks like DOF. I'll give this one a 5/5 as well.

thanks.

Well I like this one too, mostly for the feeling of comfort we get from the light and the buildings. Here the alien looks more like a statue, like it was intended to.
Oh and rashadcarter I absolutely agree with you outdoor lighting absolutely needs Sky Light, or something that can fake it.
the reason behind the blurred reflections is I am trying to simulate specularity.
