Stone Cold
Description: Named after the Rainbow song by the same name. This was more or less a study in mask blending in PhotoImpact. The render is DS but the bump textures and background are bryce (yep, yet another hybrid render). Icicles made in post. I tend to use whatever program is best suited to a specific task. TFV.

Amazing that you were able to align the character and lighting in both programs. That must not have been too easy as they use very different scaling systems. I am not too crazy about the hair, something with it's shine is not right...maybe it's because the hair lacks bump so it looks too flat. Bump would separate the strands a bit and look more legtitmate. You know this makes me think of the movie "Species," when she gets upset and changes into her true alien form.

Over-all amazing and inspiring. Keep using whatever program works for you because your pipeline renders exceptional results! 5/5

Great piece of work. I hate it - which means you accomplished an excellent result.

rashadcarter, all you have to do is render the same model and the same camera position only with different texture, then place one image on top of the other in PS or GIMP and erase the one on top until you get what you want.

gat's right

that's exactly what I did. Most photo editers have a mask mode where black is transparent and white is opaque.I made a mask using Bryce noise combined with a white to black fade to make the blend very uneven, with certain random scratches allowing the lower texture to show through.

The layering effect assumed, I guess my question was with the camera set-up in the first place, as the two programs have different scaling systems and lighting assumptions. Masking is pretty easy, you just need to choose mask from the render options and select the objects you want masked. Easy as pie.
