Fluffy Text (in Carrara 6 pro)
Description: There is an example HDRI scene in the Carrara folders that features some kind of brass instrument and a couple of spheres. Well I got rid of that and imported some rounded text from Wings3D and added some "hair" - a feature new to Carrara 6 and on I must confess I'm impressed with. I'd tried before to achieve plush materials in bryce using volumetrics but something goes badly wrong when volumetrics collide - and they are exceedingly slow to render. The "hair" feature in Carrara is faster than I would have expected. Of course this maybe more hairy than fluffy or perhaps fuzzy - I did initally apply the fur to balls - but decided with some foresight that I didn't want to have to be the one to invent a title for that patricular image...

Excellent. The dynamic hair is the reason I bought C6 too. We will be seeing alot from this feature especially as a grass maker.

Nightstar, could we possibly set up a Carrara folder? There are going to be alot of Carrara images coming in very soon. Thanks.

Excellent. Pehaps not exactly fluffy but more hairy or pelty. It would be perfect for a toy teddy bear. Lighting is excellent, too.

Carrara has evolved. Very nice hair/fur. Your image is like a maya render. Do you have more precise control over the gradient of the hair? I mean, is Carrara 6 capable of making for ex. the bottom to be noticable red, while the upper part of the hair is still light brown or something? The shading here is very convincing. Now your Vickies will be trully unique with that new feature. Nice :)

Now this is really cool. Too bad I can't afford to upgrade right now. :-(

It's likely that the program will never be less expensive than it is right now. If I was you I would consider getting it sooner rather than later, you can save at least $100.00.

Richter, Carrara is certainly no Maya, but it tries to be and generally does an okay job of it. I have not heard of any major Movie studios using Carrara as I know they use Maya, but with features like dynamic hair, Carrara might find itself a home in professional workflows more than ever.

For the money, Carrara is unbeatable. I am completely on board with this software and I would say that it is a very wise investment. You get full GI, dynamic hair, character rigging/posing for under $500. It is a very good all-rounder.
