Where the Sea-Dragon lies imprisoned
Description: I couldn't think of a shorter name to fit best. The little baby dragon along with the ground are apophysis renders I'm using for texturing. Not a single square plane or cube was used. It's all texture work. The shadow-banding from the right side is a result of less transparent texture map, since you know I'm using *.png-s for their alpha transp. channel. As far as Bryce is concerned, mainly diamond material was used with refraction of 300, which varies on some places along with transparency values 100~75. The scene is lit by few cone-shaped spotlights (with Visible object volume & Infinite Light turned on) below the ground layer pointing to the surface. This way a small amount of "fog" leaks through the most transparent parts of the ground texture. The hdr was galileo_probe.hdr with squared falloff, quality 16, int 4, hdri fx 6 and radius 50. Tir was on, no dof. The mineral deposits here and there are made in Maya and imported here. If anyone is interested, I will upload a variation of them. A minor postwork in PS for the red eye of the sea-dragon and slight sharepening. Overall this img is a bit surrealistic and abstract. I hope you'll like it.

Stunning. It seems to follow no rules. Incredible contrasts and expertly handled elements. You have the skills to do pretty much whatever you want. The probe offers incredible light but I wonder if it fits as a backdrop. But then again as I said, it follows no rules so it actually does fit. Amazing. It has a great intimacy to it. Crystals are perfect, if only we could figure out some way to fake prismatics. My comment is all over the place because the image stikes me from many angles.

Unbelievable! The detail is so sharp it almost hurts, especially those crystals. I've had to study it a bit to see everything there. The monochromatic look is not my favorite element but that doen't detract from the overall impact.

A magnificent piece of work! Top Marks! 5/5

Beautiful work. Being monochrome is spot on. Using the light probe with such low intensity was an excellent decision. 5/5 without a doubt.

Thank you. I said it's a bit surreal and abstract at the same time didn't I? :) I'm happy you liked it. Butterflies aren't exactly supposed to swim with the fishes but I thought it would be an interesting detail, along with the cystals/minerals and all. About the monochrome look, at the start I didn't planned to do it that way. Once I had the right probe working, everything came to its place and I settled for using this hdr. What I missed to add in the description is that no lights were tinted to emit different color from white. It's the specularity of the glass objects that was tinted (crystals are with the main color changed). You can see that specularity just right in front over the ball's surface - the default sun was on, I just positioned it the way that the highlight could fit one of the reflected hdr windows, though the sun shadows were off. They were messing too much with the final look I wanted.

I do like it, I like it 5/5 and then some. Very attractive piece, I particularly like the crystals and their gem like quailty. I really can't fault it.
