Rainbow Dimensions Version 2a
Description: It's been a while since I've posted anything. I moved over a month ago and it broke my momentum sending me into a dry spell. That's ok though. No drought lasts forever. :-)

I just love these colourful abstracts and this one is a definite poster. It's very colourful and not too complex. A 4' by 5' print of this one on display at the Met or the Guggenheim would definitely attract a lot of attention. ;-)

All coments welcome.

BTW, I'm working on a new animation project. It's a new version of Dance of the Spheres using Metaballs. This may take quite a bit of time to finish as it is very labor intensive but it is my most challenging project to date and should be well worth the wait. ;-)

Its looking good spetyr I like the colors as usual.

Questions:
a) You didn't use AA?
if you did usa AA. then
b) Did you pause it at some point?

This one was done a while back and doesn't appear to be antialiased. I don't know why I rendered it this way and I didn't save a setup file for it so I may never get this patern again. :-(

I do have a setup file with the mirror box and lighting so I can always play around and get myriad images with this rainbow coloring. :-)

Thanks! A lot of experimentation went into these images. Mirror box shape and lighting are the major elements. I just love the blending effect from 4 base colors: Blue, Green, Yellow and Red. 8 square spotlights positioned on a single plane (usually Y) at 45 degree angles towards center, each color diagonally opposed to itself and all tracking the target object which in this case is a mirrored sphere. I can't remember which mirror box configuration I used here but I usually use a combination of primitives (usually cubes or pyramids) that are hollowed via boolian subtraction and given a mirrored surface. The box itself has to be set with 'Cast Shadows: Off' so the lights can pass through it from outside and the Diffusion setting on the mirror box and target mats controls the brightness of the colors. The Y size setting on the spots is important for the blending. I believe I used 1/2 of the setting for X and Z (10.24 I believe) giving them a wide cast pattern that lets the colors blend like this but I've played with it to increase/decrease the blending ratio with some interesting results. I use the Camera for the final rendering. Repositioning the Camera and target object can make significant changes in the image. You can also play with Ray Depth settings to ajust the complexity of the reflections.

Play with it. That's how I evolved these images. ;-)

Glad to have you back here spektyr. This newest entry of yours is absolutely beautiful. There appears to be AA-ing was at work at some places but not on others. Strange effect.

Thanks Horo,

I believe the AA problem is only visible on lines that are at angles other than true horizontal, verticle and diagonal. The more off the 0, 45 and 90 degree angle the more prominent the aliasing. At least that's the only way I can explain it.

I have to find out how I did this one so I can rerender it superfine at maximum res so a large print will look as clean as possible. When I'm finally in the position to do so I want to frame some large prints for display and possible sale.

Thanks David!

I'll have to play around later and see is I can recapture this one so I can render it with SFAA.

And I have to get into the habit of saving the setups ALWAYS! ;-)
