Carrara Shore
Carrara Shore

Carrara Shore
Description: Did I spell the title right?

I made it this morning, modeled a few rocks and multi replicated them, nothing special. The displacement modifier bugged out carrara for me but I got through it without loosing my work. I think it happened because I just dragged the whole shader tree from the shader directory.

The rock formation came out like that by an accident, but I kind of like it, you don't usually see something like that in Bryce or terragen, it was done by changing the smoothing angle. I think I will make a whole cliff like that.
Comments, suggestions?

Good combination of light and colours. The smaller stones look like they are imbedded into the underlying shore in a way that is not entirely convincing, almost as if the shore was made of tar and had been rolled over some loose rocks. The complexity is great - I think though, more rocks are needed... The upright rock looks good, but the lines are too perfect, maybe something could be done with displacement mapping to break up the perfectly straigt lines without distroying the overall effect - which is excellent. The water seems a bit high frequency - the colour is fine. Overall a very pleasing image.

Can't think of much else to say, the texture on the far mountain is wonderful, and the sky is well done for DAZ's limited engine. I'd give it a 5.

Nice job. The small stones do look a bit like they were placed, more stones are needed for that random "natural" feel. The sky color is great, I have seen it alot in Carrara renders. Is it a pre-set? And lighting, how was the scene lit?

thanks, I will add more rocks to try and cover the terrain, maybe add another filter to make it look more natural as well. The cliff has a displacement map, but I will change the smoothing angle a bit. The only light is from the Sky Light and the sun.

All's said already. Just about that strange rock: why not capitalise on it, make a huge crystal out of it?

Perhaps a glossier mat for that poligonal rock formation would make it look like a huge chunk of mica schist. Even then it looks out of place in this scene.

I like the cliff mat. It's very 'rockish' ;-)

thanks,
the cliff shader was a preset, the only thing I did is that it asked me for the missing .bmp file and I chosen one of my stocks.
