GITS
Description: This was made to resemble Ghost In The Shell. I used Aiko and clothes from http://www.planetvixens.com/index.php

I made this about a year ago and at the time I used tons of ambient, so here is the earlier version:
http://img151.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gitsflatscreenzv0.jpg

I later changes some things, I cut down on the number of polygons used by about a half. I got rid of the ambient, and instead used IBL and 6 radial lights, only one of them you can see. Render time for this image was 11 hours. AA took the bigger half. Skin looks like crap, but nothing I can do. Oh, and everything else was made inside of bryce, other then the text.

I checked them both out, Gat, but I'm not quite sure which one I like the most. The newer verion due to the lack of ambient feels much more natural, the amount of trees combined with the haze produces unbelievably great results! I wonder if Aiko has to have more deffinition on her face and clothing by additional light, but the longer I look at her the more I think this is the way it has to be (like you rendered here). You should've kept the water material along with the lights inside the lanterns. These lights reflect very nicely in the water surface of the older version. Oh, and yes, if it wasn't this older hi-res pic, I would've still trying to read the green text. Now that I know it's Japanese :), there's no point trying to understand it :)

I remember when you made this all that time ago. I remember thinking what a great image. I also felt the ambient got in the way a bit. This ambient free version as Richter mentions is much more natural, especially in places like the base column in the center as it touches the water. But I miss those other light sources inside the orbs. I really think that if you bring those light sources back the scene will "pop" much more. The old scene pops more because of what appear to be extra lights. Excellent job, this one is fiver for sure!

I just completely agree with richter and Rashad. Water and light sources in orbs are better in the previous version. I like the wider angle of view in this one here. Aika is too far away to notice the plastic look of her skin as it is obvious in the first version. Just the sky is a bit flat, but this is a known issue for Bryce. Yes, I think a fiver is due here.

Good image. As remarked upon already, the idea would be a combination of effects from the first image and this one. I think I like the earlier image better, but well... maybe tomorrow I'd feel differently, it's a close thing. I look forwards to the "improved" version. I'd have given you 5/5 for this, but since you are working on improving it, I suppose I will have to give you 4 and then save the 5 for later? Hmn... does that seem fair?

Solid State Society? Nope. This is the first time I'm hearing about that one. Sounds intensely interesting though. :-)

BTW, You wouldn't happen to know where I can get a hold of one of those Thermoptic Camouflage thingies, would you? I can think of some interesting applications for something like that. ;-)
