Small Bathroom
Description: The sink with the faucets and plumbing is courtesy David. The geniebottles and the washing machine are from DAZ. I made the tiles from cubes with alienleaf05 as a picture (there are additional leaves for the Ivy Generater called Alienleaf http://www.downloadtaxi.com/d/1176276108/). The running water is a lattice drawn in the terrain editor. Furniture and room were made from Bryce cubes.

Lit by three yellowish radials that cast no shadows evenly distributed near the ceiling, the battery powered fluorescence inspection lamp (the plumber will be back in a minute) and my living-night3cb light probe shining through the door, set to 256 lights, intensity 1.95 and hdri-effect 100. Renders in 7-1/4 hours.

I shyed away from using premium render and soft shadows. As can be seen at some mortices and gaps in the furniture, higher quality render settings would have been better. But 64 rays didn't suffice, I've tried that much.

Wow! There is some really nice stuff going on here. The water looks really good coming out of the faucet, yet I do not see where the water actually contacts the sink and collected water in the sink. I think that the hdri should have been used as light only, as I can see the hdri reflected in the mirror and I cannot help but to wonder why the outsode world is so blurry.

Lighting is very good, the only suggestion I would make is to place radials where you need them most, like on the bottom left to illuminate the cupboard sides a bit. In real life there would be a little bit of light bouncing off of the floor and off the wall to lighten the side of the cupboard just a little bit, but not too much of course. With my interios I have learned to not place all of my lighting in the "center" of the room. The secondary lights are often much better near the edges and corners of rooms to correct the shadows cast the the primary light source which is usually centrally located to some degree.
This image is a sure 5/5!!!

I agree there could be another light source on the other side of the cabinet and that vase. Other then that its very well lit. (is lit the correct word?)

I agree with your decision for not using premium AA, but there is a tinge of grainyness in the shadowed areas. As I'm not much of an interior lighting expert, I'd say looks good, especially the boolean stuff. Did you use a photo texture on the washing machine?

The lighting in this scene is of a high standard, very few places where it doesn't get - which is good - because I don't see much evidence of ambient. The backs of the bottles and the side of the cabinate on the left however seem a little overly dark and could perhaps benifit with some light being let through (I'm thinking you had the shadow intensity set at 100? - maybe a lower setting would allow some light in from the probe from the back of the mirror area). Alternatively non shadow casting materials can be used for the walls and then semi-transparent materials placed behind those to control the light - this has a inpact on render time but it has a less "flattening" effect that reducing the shadow intensity. The doorway in the background looks, because of the IBL image blurr - to me like a mirror - also because it does not appear that the wall is very think. The tiles are excellent, if rather gaudy and I'm impressed with the wallpaper material, since I know how difficult it can be to get a nutral and natural wall material. The water too is very good, but appears to be lit rather too brightly in that area. Nevertheless, quibbles asside, 5/5. However, I feel there is further scope for experimentation with this set up. Maybe with a less reflective washing machine too?

Thank you all for your comments. I shied away from water collecting in the sink, that's why I bent it to simulate it running directly down. The easier way out would have been to lower the camera a bit. The HDRI alone was not sufficient because the lamps shine only through the door. The room behind is blurry because that's how the HDRI is. It is true that the walls are too thin. If I had added a door knob, this blurriness could have passed as a glass door of the kind that lets you see only blury forms. Thanks for the suggestion about using secondaries rather near corners than in the centre. This makes sense. The material on the washing machine is the one that came over with the model from D|S and I should have dampened it a bit. And yes, the shadows were set to 100. I think I will experiment with David's idea. After all, the room is already there, the HDRI as well.

Beautiful!

Very beautiful Horo! I love it! The tile are superb. I think the bottles you used are georgous. The lighting is very tranquil. Nicely done : )
