Battle for Nerakh-Taar
Battle for Nerakh-Taar

Battle for Nerakh-Taar
Description: I know some of you have seen a previous version of the "Battle" already, but the first one was lacking the action this new entry presents. The laser beams and the rockets fired at the far back are the minor changes (photoshop only), which I believe affect the overall impression this image gives. I tend to improve some older renders of mine in one way or another. I wanted to add a little something to it, not a global change of anything though, and as the working goes, it is just as easy to improve an image as to spoil it so hopefully my manoeuvres were successfull. Just to remind that the Nerakh-Taar battle was rendered in Bryce5.5 and most of the textures were bryce-made. Below I'm posting a link with the untextured scene, which I haven't had sent in the older entry's description. I think it might be useful to see also.

Masterful. There's no other word to describe it! Love the details as yes they add a great deal of drama to the scene. Richter, would you hate me if I begged you to render it IBL? I know it has crossed you mind. The lighting you have used here is amazing. You are a pro at lighting. But ibl could take it yet another step, if you wanted to push even harder for realism. The scene is already plenty realistic, I guess I'm just curious.

One of my most favorite scenes.
Tell me, did you use a transparency trick to have all those soldiers, or are they all models?

Oooh that's cool. Yes IBL would be incredible. It would bring out the detail in those spider things. Also you may want to work on the sky a bit, it's a little, well shall I say, Brycey? But I love the great pinnacles of rock.

I got to say that the sky looks fine other then that haze in the background its making it look 2d.

Thanks for the comments so far.
IBL is a new feature in Bryce and I used it in some other scenes, but I'm a little sceptical about how it will work right here. When I saw only the Rashad's comment I was thinking of mail-ing him that particular ibl vers, not uploading here. But as I see the interest grows and I'll be working on to get the new image here.
Icecreamman, maybe you're right about the sky, but if there should be changing there, it has to be very subtle change. I don't want to distract any attention off the field. As for the haze, Gat, trust me, lowering the amount or turning it off will drastically reduce the "charming" of the Battle.
Gat, no transparency trick used, I like to put everything to the max when I'm working so every model in scene is real and on the places you see. What if I want to create an animation :) I'll need every military & alien unit there. Now for the techincal info:
Source file was 535Mb; the amount of Ram consumed 1366Mb (of course I needed to make a low-poly version of the soldiers); there are 85 v-12 marines, 52 flying carva fighters (green ones) and 400 scorps. Now you understand what my "make more" sentence means.

The addition of the missiles and the laser blasts have certainly made the image more dynamic. I particularly like the looping missiles with the smoke trails, I think you could add more of those against the dark jaggy rocks. As I'm sure I will have stated before this is an excellent scene and thanks to like to your gallery, it is very interesting to see the scene in it's untextured form.

I've "blink-compared" the two versions and the addition adds a lot to the impression of a fight going on. Though you added it in in photoshop, the smoky loop looks surprisingly 3D. Your decision to use an unspecular sky is a good one. The eye is always drawn to where the action is. I'm always surprised what can be done in Bryce if only you have the patience, craftmanship and the eye of an artist. I am absolutely impressed even though I not very much like the subject matter. Max rating again.

Amazing

Glad I didn't pass this one up! This is amazing - and it takes a lot to amaze me! 1st there is the sheer # of objects. I wouldn't attempt this in B6 as it wouldn't save when I used V3, tower ruins model, and some Ivy. 2nd is all those poses - wow! 3rd, the scale looks very correct as does the depth and use of haze to convey it. 4th, the SFX, whether done in Bryce or post are spot on. I'd say if you did this in less than 100 hrs you should be doing it for a living if you're not already. Supreme job!
