Dirty sinks
Description: These are more like the real thing I'm sorry to report. From left to right they are lit with Horo's

bith-am1900.hdr
BBB-tonemapped.hdr
BelowBhutanBridge-1000a.hdr

Appart from the rainbow edges (and reflections) I really like the light from the testcard (bith-am1900.hdr). In the second pair the orange light is provided by "ground" in the hdr and the blue is from the sky. Horo knows more about the tonemapping process, all I can observe is that is suppressed the ground light and boosted the blue in comparison.

This bathroom of yours turned out fantastic! Very kind of you to provide 3 renders with diff probes. I even got one favourite, the right one. I find the dirt and the lighting there most realistic. Maybe because the bulb in my bath is slightly orange-yellowish. The right and the middle renders have this red-browny pattern on the wall, which the left rend hasn't got. I wonder if it's supposed to be like this or you've just forgotten to place a texture there. What I like about the left render is that the light seems to bounce off the edge of the sink and thus creating very nice glow around. Overall, these 3 are worth 5/5 each. And again I'm very impressed with the dirt applied; you also seem to have solved the toothbrush "problem".

Thanks. As this is still a WIP I've not finished adding to the image. The wallpaper on the left is just an embelleshment. I've not settled on the final lighting setup, these are just trials. Also, (sorry Tina), this sink is not yet as horrible as the real thing, so it still needs some more scunge, scale and *stuff* - I just need to figure out how to work that in! 'Fraid to say, the only thing that gets cleaned regularly in this house is my car!

Yes, the sink looks beautifully horrid. The only thing that definitely never gets cleaned is my car - except when it rains. From the lighting, I prefer the right one. The one with the BITH at left has the test colours reflected on the faucet and that looks wrong, otherwise, the light is quite nicely balanced. The centre one with the test HDRI tone-mapped to an LDRI and faked up to an HDRI again has too much blue. The right one that uses the true HDRI from which the BBB was faked is best. A bit much colour from the ground up and a bit sparse blue from the sky down.

In any case, a 5/5 for the stained sink.

Nicely done using bryce deep texture editor, ubt I think if you gave map zone a spin you would get much better results. I also agree with horo about the hdri selection. Also, the tiles could use some dirt as well, its kind off odd when everything is dirty the things around them are clean, even if thats how it is in real life. That and why not add some cracks and missing pieces, using terrains and bump mapping, I guess that would be your next version of this WIP. 5/5 overall

Never saw dirt look so good. Just looking at it gives me a dirty feeling...to much information? Anyhow. Nice dirt. I don't know what method you used but it seems fine, the dirt is not shiny which was my initial concern. Gat is right about the tiles needing to be less perfect and clean. Nice job dressing up the room, the colored tiles or designs on the left are great. Toothbrush looks infinetly better. The render on the right has warm colored lighting just as Richter describes is true of indoor bathroom lights. The one in the middle has the blue and to me it looks like the influence of the sky, as if there was a window in this bathroom along with the warm indoor lights. Both are fine lighting choices. I looked at mapzone, it is very cool though a bit complex in it's way. One thing I love about Gat is that he is very much up to speed with what's new out there on the web, nothing gets by him, and he is so good to share his findings. Mapzone and another program I use called Genetica are great, and do dirt very well. For me, so far so good, so far a sure five/five. Really, is the bathroom that dirty in your apartment or home? Nice humor describing that this is not nearly as dirty as the real thing. I'm curious what the real photograph looks like.

Hmmm, I don't like the wallpaper, and the cup holding the toothbrush needs some work. I would say give it reflectivity, but I think there is already enough reflection in the scene. I love the dirt. The first image is my favorite. Sorry I haven't posted recently, I was in Belize (A small country to the southeast of Mexico) doing mission work this past week.
