Like matrix, lol.

This is weird the quality is low, I can see weird artifacts in the lines, as if it was rendered with 8 rays on premium, instead of AA

IBL setting: 16 lights. The model is not yours, so you can savely invest a lot of time for lighting. This setup is all about light. Experiment with a light dome, colorable light rings, different light probes. This is a nice setup for just testing lighting.

This is a sterile scene. Nicely done though.

I think some of the grainyness is just from compressing when I uploaded. I did notice some of that though when it finished rendering. Actually it's probably because I dropped the rpp down to 4 as opposed to 64. I didn't really want to spend that kind of time on this image.

Horo: By 16 lights do you mean intensity? Settings are:

Quality: 16
Intensity: 5
HDRI Effect: 9
HDRI not rendered as a background.
Everything else is on the default settings.

Yep that's exactly what I'm doing, playing with lights...

Regular AA would have rendered faster, considering that there are 16 lights time 4 rays thats 64 rays per pixle, or something like that. Regular AA would be faster and better quality.

the scean set up

the set up is nice but as for the lighting i think it can use a little work and nore color on the object like the circle the couches are on make it red to bring out the object and hide the lined light a litte so i thing sence you are working on this i will check back and see if a new one has been posted

16 Lights

No, icecreamman, with 16 lights I meant Quality. The Quality setting is actually the number of lights. Since the median-cut algorithm is used to create the lights, their number has to be a power of 2. That's why there is no Quality setting of e.g. 24. Sorry for the confusion I created.

Thanks for the clarification Horo. Yes gat, in hindsight, my choice of rpp was kind of stupid... GWYDION, this image is supposed to be more sterile, and not have as much color.

The conversation pit of the gods. ;-)

Somehow I get the impression that the whole lot folds up and retracts into the floor leaving nothing to show it was ever there. It seems pretty surreal if you ask me.

By the way, nice modeling job on the couches. :-)

Cool. It reminds me of some work done by LitoNico about a year or so ago. As Horo says, this is a great scene to test out lighting and materials.

An ibl setting 16 in my opinion is actually not much different than the light dome you used to light your lego vehicles in bryce5.5, it's literally the same thing. But an ibl 16 will render faster than your light dome, partly because with ibl there is no specularity response, so alot less calculation of the material values. What I'm saying is that this scene would look the same with sixteen point lights as it does with the ibl 16.
I'm saying this to encourage you not to put all of your confidence into ibl because it is not the only route to realism, you were very well on your way with your light domes in 5.5. In many situations point lights will do more for you than ibl because you can control them easily, unlike ibl that requires screwing around with color levels and contrast levels of an image.
I try to think of it as direct light and indirect, or light that has bounced. I consider my brightest lights to be the primaries, and I use secondary lights to represent the natural bouncing of those bright lights because bryce does not calculate bouncing. bouncing light is a big part of the light we see in nature. The secondaries are the fill lights or shadow correctors, but they are super important. ibl can work the same way depending on the hdr. You know this already, I'm just repeating. The advantage to ibl is the soft shadows it can produce at high enough settings.

Clean & clear! Nothing complex in this image and it doesn't need any more detail. All this white-ness feels very attractive. This could be a possible cover on some magazine maybe. Good work!

So much has been said already. I really like this piece. Only one question from me. Which hdr did you use or did you make it yourself?
