The B-24 Arrowhead Supersonic Bomber
Description: Here's something you might see in the not too distant future. It's designed to approach it's target at high altitude, deliver high yeild nuclear bombs and be well out of range by the time detonation occurs. The model was created with Carrara Pro 5.1 and rendered with IBL in Bryce 6.1.

This scene is illuminated by TG_Probe01.hdr that I found at:

http://www.rna.hr/tutorial01/Tutorial01_part6.htm

Quality=32
Intensity=5
HDRI Effect=5
Falloff=None
HDRI Rendered as bockground with no ground plane.

All comments and suggestions welcome.

I could imagine such bombers chase through the canyons of Hellcity. Good job.

The model looks very good in this light. The material of the craft seems to fit nicely. As an excercise in ibl the scene is a success. The next step is to test out ibl in more complex scenes, or to just add a bit more to this one. ibl can take a while to render but don't fret.

Also ibl is not the answer to every lighting problem. Sometimes you can acheive better effects with just a couple of point light sources, it all depends. Ibl does not stimulate specularity response in materials nor does it like transparency. It completely fails to do anything close to justice when it comes to illuminating volumetrics, they turn out totally flat due to to the multidirectional light.

In the above example ibl was surely the right way to go because of the reflective nature of the craft. Nice work!

Thanks Rashad,

I know I'll have to experiment with the settings and eventually I want to start creating HDRI probes of my own. Right now I'm using a low quality setting to speed up rendering. I'm proud of the modeling I'm doing and I'm impatient to show it off. I know it's not the best stuff out there but for me these are major accomplishments so I'm all pumped up about them. ;-)

I just posted a new one with a Cruise Missile I designed and exhaust trails. I have to say it looks cool. :-)

I thought IBL were just lights based on the image's color and brightness put in places where the image is the brightest?

My understaning is that the image itself is what radiates the light. It's like a daytime sky where the strongest light source is the sun but the rest of the sky still radiates light at a lower level.

thats true but then there would always be soft shadows when using IBL, it would be like having an area light, but the shadows are always sharp and look like from spot lights

Cool!

Wow this is very cool! I like it alot. I like the texture you used. Nice lighting effects. I think it's worth a 5/5. Great job!

Gat-

I think I see what you mean. The edges of the tail fin shadow are razor sharp. Real world lighting would make them slightly fuzzy. I'll have to see if I can find a way around that.

Tina-

Thank you for the rave review! :-)
